| | XP and 2000 Networking Problem by
Kwaj
I am trying to get the computers in my home network to coommunicate. My
Win98 and Win2000 machines are communicating and exchange files but neither
of them can see my WinXP machine. My WinXP machine can't see any of the
other machines either.
I have tried to ensure that all three machines have the same collection of
drivers and have also ensure that they all belong to the same group,
'Mshome'...

| | Setting up a network by
JJJJ
We are in the process of setting up a network ready to go broadband. This is
between a Mac and a PC with a Belkin router/modem.
The Mac is talking to the router with no problems, but when we try to access
the management page of the router we can't. Does anyone know why? Do we have
to wait until we get the broadband information in? Is there a way round this?
Thanks
Jules

| | Computer is not accessible. You might not have permission... by
Jonathan Eales
I have just networked my two desktops and a laptop together with a router.
All the connections are fine and all computers can see each other in the
same workgroup.
However when I try to access one of the desktops I get the "\\name is not
accessible. You might not have permission..." from one and "Access is
denied" from the other.
From a little web research I've:

Jason Arthurs
I have recently reinstalled XP (SP2) on a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600
with an inbuilt 802.11b Wifi card. Everything appears to be working
fine and I can connect to my network via the wired LAN but I am unable
to get a WLAN connection.
The laptop sees the access point fine, I enter the WEP key and from
there it behaves as if the WEP key was incorrect. I am connected and
the signal strength is...

I am having trouble installing a Belkin Pre-N wireless card.
Their telephone support is TOTALLY useless, and they are permanently engaged
now.
I have installed the wireless router ok. I have selected WPA security on the
router. When I come to set up the card on the remote machine, the only
security option I am being offered is WEP, even though the router is set up
under WPA. Needless to...

I know nothing has changed.
I guess? it may be something to do with passwords, but...

| | Netgear DG834G from Amazon by
Scooby Doo
I was thinking of selling my Netgear DG834G modem/router which I've had for
about a year and buying the same one from Amazon as they give you a free USB
Wireless adapter. Anyone know if this is a v2 kit and is what difference, if
any, is there from the v1 machine?
Thanks

Is it fairly easy to install CAT5 sockets on the wall? Is it just like
installing a phone socket where the bare wires don't need to touch the
terminals? I need to have one downstairs, a cable going up the outside wall

Dear Newsgroup,
Please can you help me to understand why when I "enable" the WG311T wirelss
network card that I start to see root-server.net in NETSTAT (network

cannot find anything about root servers on the site.
Here is an example of a netstat log:

This might not be the best group to try but I have exhausted all over

of their officeconnect range that allow you to stack them on top of

Apparantly 3com don't sell them as spare parts and only sell them with
certain things. If any one knows where to buy a few or has a couple

When I boot up, NAV is disabled but NIS is ok.
Unplugging Netgear and plugging Speedtouch 330 back in, NAV is ok.

But recently I've been having problems with cables of over 10m. The weird
thing it seems to be specific to the computer attached to the cable.
Today I was at a site; cut a 15m stranded network cable. Linked up my
