| | best isp for iplayer plus overnight peer to peer. by
wrreisen2
Hi,
I have Plusnet broadband my way. I have just started using iplayer. At
the weekends during peak times it keeps on buffering. I like that fact
that with this package you can download with peer to peer: bit
torrent, emule, dc++ overnight up to 50Gb and allows 15gb 8am to
midnight during a month. I pay 15 pounds per month. Please could you
recommend a package that allows decent peer to peer...

| | Karoo Intermittent Service? by
TheScullster
Hi all
Is it me, or have there been issues with Karoo service recently?
Sunday morning seemed on-and-off. There was a maintenance operation
scheduled for 5:00am on Sunday, so I assumed that problems experienced
during the morning were related to that. Anyone else have issues then?
Also this morning at about 6:40am there seemed to be issues. According to
my router status it was connected,...

| | o2 Broadband in my area (when?) by
welsh_gje
Hi,
I remember there used to be a website which detailed when the area in
which you live was going to be broadband enabled. Is there one available
for O2?
The reason I ask - I phoned up today to enquire about their broadband
service for O2 mobile customers. I was interested in their top package -
the 20Mb one. It looked good. I was told the service isn't available in
my area.

| | Got my new Netgear DG834G but problems by
Ken
I asked about a good router a while ago and this morning bought the Netgear
one. Seemed to get it going easy but whilst my laptop immediately went
wireless and online my PC, in the same room, will not. The error box says: -
"Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no
longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try
to connect again".

| | SNR margin & router questions by
Graham J
I'm about 5km from the local exchange and use a Vigor 2600VGi router (price
about £150), with the ADSL service provided by Zen. I need the Vigor for
its VPN capability.
I see typically:-
448k Up Speed : 1440k Down Speed : 12.5 SNR Margin : 62.5 Loop Attenuation
I accept that the 62.5 dB attenuation is fair for the distance.
I tried a different router - an Edimax AR-7084A (price about £20) ...

| | Rate Adaptive? by
meddler
Needed an extension of my line that had to be run externally (using the
correct cable, etc)
Socket is NTE5, surface mounted, with BT cable entering through the house
wall.
Although I made the extension connection via IDC, it was still necessary
to disconnect the live pair and pull the BT cable back through the hole in
order to enlarge the hole and feed the new extension cable through.

| | IP numbers by
Retired
I'm considering changing my broadband package, and one of the options
available says:
"You get a dynamic IP by default, with free Static IP or a block of IPs if
you need it."
What are the pros/cons of either?
I have a web site, surf the web, use e-mail and very occasionally download a
TV program.
I'm thinking about Skype or similar
My present IP is dynamic, which instinct suggests could offer...

| | Looking for advice on tiscali and BT land line by
ANTIQCOOL
I would like to sign up with Tiscali broadband phone package....£9.99
for the first three months then £14.99 thereafter including line rental
which I think is reasonable.
I used to have a BT line which I had disconnected some years back. To
have it reconnected would cost me £125.00 but in order to do so I would
also have to take out a twelve month line rental contract with BT as
well as paying...

| | OT: Pipex email authentication problem by
Terry Pinnell
I'm getting error messages along the lines of 'rejected
username/password' when I try to get my email via pop.dial.pipex.com.
No longer have a reliable phone number or email address for whatever
passes as 'Pipex Support' these days. Can anyone help, either with
possible explanation (widespread server problem?) or a phone/email
contact please?

My Dell desktop power supply failed.
I fitted new power supply, all works well, but Ethernet link showed limited
connectivity and wouldn't play ball with DHCP. Using manual setting it looks
like it connects properly,
BUT it is so slow it won't load any pages, not even the router's one.
Status show numerous packets being sent, but received at the rate of one per
minute !

I tried out my Mobile Broadband dongle this weekend for the first time
away from home.
I did not have a very good 3G signal but it did switch occasionally to HSDPA.
It worked find on the web even when using a normal 3G connection but I
could not get it to receive mail properly using OUTLOOK. It might
download a few messages but often stuck on the first one. There was one
largish message so I...
