Hi all, Along the same lines as my other recent post re a weird VPN thing which may or may not be to do with a Vigor 2800 I was wondering if it was to do with the VPN 'end point'. So, a mate is trying to establish a 'connection' to the shares on a remote PC. He creates a M$ XPPro VPN connection from one machine, out though a

Boradband line reliability test by jdr.smith@virgin.net
Hi, Does anyone know of any way to test a broadband lines reliability ? We have a customer who's line drops out three or four times a day. They use this line for remote workers to work over a VPN from another site. When it drops out it causes a fair amount of disruption.

Understanding the output of DMT by Mortimer
I'm having intermittent problems with my broadband connection: every so often (once or twice every few days). I've now started monitoring the connection with DMT V8. The router is a Netgear DG834GT. - noise margin drops by about 1 dB when it's normally rock steady +/- 0.1 dB - lots of CRC errors, sometimes LOS (loss of sync) and occasionally a rise in ES - router loses ability to...

Web hosting that supports PHP? by Clive Savage
Sorry if this off topic, can you suggest other NG`s? Am currently with 123 - Reg and their response to my formmail problem has been less than forthcoming. Note: I know next to nothing about cgi or PHP, so need a host that provides good support for this. So, any recommendations?, should I stick to UK hosting or not?

A fews hours later than expected, I'm now on broadband! by MM
I said I'd report back, so I am now doing so. I am now connected to broadband, yippee! With Zen Internet. However, not every thing has been hunky-dory. First, I couldn't connect to the Speedtouch. Then I remembered that I had configured this PC with a specific IP address, so I selected Obtain an IP address automatically, tried again, and this time I could connect to the Speedtouch and get to the...

Virgin Media by Ron
I had some troubles in April, which were rectified pretty quickly, although I still seem to get 'no programme information' more than half the time. About 3 weeks ago I started getting a loss of signal from the terrestrial channels via the aerial (fed into and out of the set top box). I thought this was the aerial and arranged for a new one to be installed, as I need this to get teletext and to...

2 questions about tiscali by Kevin Rarity
OK, about to get my MAC and leave them after about two months of total non-service - can't get answers for these 2 from them: 1. Why could BT give me an 8meg connection when they can only give 2meg? 2. Why would the connection stop working for long periods without disconnecting? I get maybe an hour a day when I can view the simplest of web pages, other wise everything times out, this all...

Draytek Vigor 2800 VPN questions .. by T i m
Hi All, My mate has three clothes shops and the 'HQ' shop (A) polls the branch shops (B & C) to consolidate stock and sales etc. The D-Link router at the remote branch 'B' started locking up so he stuck a Belkin in there (of unknown background) while he ordered a Draytek (as they are supposed to be pretty tough / reliable). I helped him get it online and he can access the remote PC (using

What does BT do to activate ADSL on my line? by MM
1. I'm due to be activated tomorrow, Friday. What, exactly, does BT do and do they do it remotely? My exchange is a little brick building about half a mile up the lane and one rarely sees any OpenReach van there. Is it the case that when the exchange was enabled (and there was a LOT of activity in the neighbourhood then - OpenReach vans all over the place) that equipment is installed that BT...

Can I plug the Ethernet cable into another PC now? by MM
Now that it's all working, can I simply unplug the Ethernet cable from this PC and connect it to another PC, load up its browser and get a connection? Or will I have to set up the Speedtouch again? Yeah, yeah, I know it's not the best solution! I may even buy a switch soon! MM

ADSLMax: Training period by Maurice Batey
Will be moving over to ADSLMax Broadband next week, and have noticed that for the first 10 days the router/modem should be left 'on' all day, so that the optimum sync speed can be established. Neophyte question: Does that training period also need the PC to be 'on', or is the whole thing just between the router/modem (Netgear DG834G) and the telephone system? -- Maurice
