Trying to solve a problem for a friend, and failing. He has two pcs
connected to a Demon-supplied router. Recently he's been unable to
access at least two major commercial websites - they time out.
If he powers the router down then restarts it, he can get both sites -
but only once. Then the problem starts again.
We've cleared caches and cookies, and used both Firefox and IE - same
problem. Can...

The Talk3 International +Broadband looks like excellent value to me-
saving over £15 a month or so. Any problems with them as a broadband
provider? (I've heard about problems with carphone warehouse.)

| | How can I avoid exceeding my download limit? by
apiro
Hi,
My ISP allows me up to 8GB monthly download allowance and as I
understand it this can apply to simply images or short films at
Youtube coming up in the browser regardless of whether I download them
or not.
Is there a program which can warn me if I am close to or exceeding the
limit? Preferably freeware.

Grumps
Mother-in-law ordered Sky 'free' package (already have TV from Sky) in
February. Connection was established a week later (according to Sky), but
the modem/router failed to sync (or even attempt to).
I had a look at their phone wiring, removed the BT front cover and used the
test socket all to no avail. Tried several filters and even a replacement
router sent by Sky (although the original...

| | Home Hub routing table overflows. by
kráftéé
Now I've got my Homehub embedded in my network I appear to be getting
the old Nat/routing table overflows causing the router to lock up
after around 48 hours.
Is this a known problem or is it just my usage which is causing the
problem. I have turned off the UPNP support as that did appear to
make a difference with the SKY Netgear, mind you that didn't stay up
for 48 hours at one go, so...

I would reccommend BT Total Broadband to anyone as they have great
spam filtering and you get a free Wireless Hub with phone. I have
been with them for years and would not change.

Really, I think these may be the biggest bunch of useless pricks on the
entire planet.
Ordered BB on 21st June, gave them my MAC code etc., order went through,
router arrived about a week later, shortly afterwards I received a letter
with my activation date (2nd July), however noticed that the letter stated
that I opted for an engineer to install the kit (which I didn't).

Sorry if this has been discussed before but.. are Orange better than
TalkTalk?
I've had some problems with TalkTalk, but after they upgraded the
line, its been a fast and reliable service, though its missing lots of
things like Newsgroup access and the ability to put incomplete
addresses in and get results.
What about Orange?

wasted
Greetings - I recently upgraded the firmware on my WAG54GS to the latest
version. Is that upgrade now stored in the device itself? I.E. if I press
the reset button, or use the setup pages to "return to factory default" will
the update remain?
Thanks

Theo Markettos
I'm trying to advise a friend on which ISP/phone combination to go for. She
was initially interested in Virgin's 20quid for phone+2Mbit, but I dissuaded
her on the basis that Virgin's phone connection is really expensive for
calls. However Virgin have a 10quid for 2Mbit for 12 months offer until the
end of the month, which is tempting, and means she could get a BT line for
phone plus Primus...

Bear with me... a bit of a saga.
I'm 1200m from exchange (actual line length) with an attenuation of 19 and until recently had near rock solid 8128 sync and 7150 profile.
June 25th line started dropping, especially when the phone was in use, but resyncs were always at or very near 8128. Checked all the obvious things... disconnect and reconnect everything, reboot router, no improvement.
