| | ADSL MAX Max sync speed with interleaving by
nospam
Having connected at 8128 for the last 18 months something went tits up
yesterday. Didn't see what happened but now I'm synced at 7296 and the
exchange has turned on interleaving and looks like it upped the SNR margin
to 9db.
I am getting about 1 corrected block per minute so there isn't much wrong
with the connection (although it might be a bit worse than 2 days ago).
I seem to remember...

A question;
Do the LES interface trays exist in a -48V version ? (e.g. normal telecom
power supply)
If so is it a new tray or can the PSU module of a 13A AC tray be replaced?

| | OT: Pipex/Homecall spam by
PeterC
On one address I've been having about 20 - 50 a day (mostly French) and now
they've stopped! Had only 1 in 2 days.
3 days ago there was an e-mail from Tiscali re. extra web and e-mail space
(but still no more addresses) and spam filtering, so I don't know if it's a
coincidence.
Any one else seen this?

| | 247% increase by BT! by
Peter Crosland
Plusnet have just announced that BT Wholesale are increasing their charge to
cease broadband service on a telephone line. This will not apply to MAC
transfers, but it will apply if a customer moves house. The charge made for
this is being raised from £5.75 to £20 which is an increase of more than
247%. Just how can such an increase be justified? Why have OFCOM allowed
this?

Chris Dent
Apologies for the cross-post from uk.telecom but its relevant to both
NGs. Any advice most gratefully received:
For the sake of brevity I'll spare you *all* the grim detail but
essentially we took over a new Virgin VIP phone/broadband/TV package
last month. On Saturday morning we realised that none of phone,
broadband or TV were working.
I got onto technical support and was told there was a...

| | BT charging for line fault callouts by default - BEWARE by
John Livingston
It appears that a reported line fault will be charged to the customer,
despite the problem being external to the house (that is - not in
customer's wiring or equipment). This will happen in the circumstance
that a lineman does not find the specific cause of a fault, and enters a
"No fault found" as the clear. In other words, if it's an intermittent
fault, and it isn't happening when the...

| | Are Tiscali blocking 'news.individual.net' in the evening? by
Eric
For several days now I am noticing that 'news.individual.net' is not working
between 6pm and 11pm on Tiscali. Is anyone else experiencing the same? Is
anyone else having trouble with 'news.individual.net' in the evenings, even
if you are not with Tiscali?
Thanks

| | Mobile broadband (for apple mac) by
Jack
A guy i know spends about £10 a month on a dialup
I suggested one of those USB dongles at £15 a month and he likes the
idea - but hes worried about going over the monthly GB allowance
I've did the usual google search and had a quick look at o2/three/etc
From what i've read so far none of them give the option of just stopping
the connection once you reach the monthly limit

| | BT internet phone by
Carl
Hello all,
Is there any other way of getting the BT internet phone working using
Netgear DG834GT router. I do not want to use the BT Home Hub, but of course
I'd like to be able to make cheap phone calls. The wireless on the BT Home
hub is woeful in comparison to my Netgear stuff, and I haven't a clue where
to begin with this, as far as I am aware, I can only get a skype phone to
work?

| | Can Routers Be Switched Off When Not In Use ? by
Michael
I am on dialup paying £10 a month. Sky would like me to have their base plan
at no cost, although with a hefty connection fee.
I have no experience of broadband, routers etc apart from what I have read
on this forum
I use the Internet for 5 hours max a day and wouldn't want a router
connected when not required. Would there be problems with this ?

| | Mobile broadband question by
Andrew Hodgson
Hi,
What is the difference between me using PC Suite on the laptop and
using one of these USB dongles and a mobile broadband package? Is the
SIM card in the later set up differently? I was playing with one of
these at work, and the connection seemed a lot more quicker than me
using PC Suite on the phone, as I have done in recent times.
Thanks.
Andrew.

| | Be/O2 Same but different? by
www.GymRatZ.co.uk
Following a tormentuous time with UK Online (who previously provided a
good service) I fear the time has come to fly the nest.
It seems that O2 since buying Be had a few problems in the early days
but generally (from what I can tell) seems to be getting very good reviews.
So, Is O2 the same base network as Be in the same way that Uk0nline is,
since Sky bought Easynet a few years back, the same...

| | Virgin Media cable broadband - question by
Hugh Jampton
Other than Virgin Media are there any other ISPs who have access to
broadband via Virgin Media cable ?
I think the answer is no - but was asked this question by a neighbour today
and thought I'd better check before saying no.
TIA.
