Wired modem router suggestions? Giving up wireless. by The Invisible Man
Having moved various house wiring I now have no need for wireless and could do without the security risks and Belkin. Anyone got any idea what is a good ADSL modem router? 8Mb connection that normally runs at about 6Mb (70m from local exchange :-) Connected via BT line to Newnet. Use Windows XP Pro SP2, firefox, thunderbird and IE7 when I have to.

BT Voyager 2000 wireless modem - power supply spec? by Breezer
Hi, A friend has lost her power supply for the BT Voyager 2000 wireless modem and is happy to replace it with a generic power supply, but I don't know if it has any special power requirements. Can someone who has one (or someone who knows, write) look and tell me what the power specifications of the standard power supply are on it - ie. voltage ("V") and current (in Amps, "A", for the non-techy)...

A word for Idnet by Eeyore
I was experiencing slightly sluggish performance a month or two ago with my Max connection with Idnet. They did have some slight congestion issues for a while until they got themselves a new 'central' but even after that was commissioned I was still not back to normal so I had another moan. They reckoned it was contention at BT's end so I have been considering an LLU provider. Anyway, don't...

Virgin media - my 10mbit/sec line is slower these days by Alex Hunsley
Humph. Following a recent problem with my Virgin Media (ex-Telewest/ntl) broadband connection, I'm noticing that various speed test pages on the web report pretty poor speeds now. Here's a typical result: http://www.kbps.co.uk/SpeedCheck_report.php?session_id=sc_1175114550_487 I tried these pages before the switch over to Virgin and got reasonable speeds...

Which ports does the internet need? by digitaltoast
There's a guy living in a room in my parents house who seems to be constantly downloading. I don't like the idea of that, I've told him not to, but when his cable is plugged in, the lights are always going nuts and it slows them down. The router allows blocking or allowing of any number of tcp and/or udp ports or to forward only certain traffic to specific machines. I'd like to set it to BLOCK...

The Great (Pipex) Escape - complete ! by Colin Wilson
When I woke up this morning (later than normal, as i'm on strong painkillers at the moment) my line was dead - plugged in the new router, and was up and running in seconds. HTTP seems a little flaky at present, and my line stats / attenuation seem up and down (dslzone reports 4Mbit (496k/sec), adslguide reports 3.8Mbit) - but having changed the filter (I was getting dropped when the phone...

Tweaking Sky Max connections ? by Colin Wilson
OK, my line is still only running relatively slowly, and I *think* i'm just on rate adaptive DSL(? adsl max) rather than ADSL2 - i'm wondering if anyone knows what you can do to try to force the issue... This site appears useful, in that it can alter some settings in the provided router: http://dg834gt.mognuts.com/NetgearRouterUtility.html When I check my stats, I think they're relatively...

problems with tiscali broadband by Robert Marshall
A friend is having problems with tiscali that their helpdesk has - so far - been unable to resolve - he is unable to browse to certain websites - but most sites are fine - if a bit slowish. www.bt.com (for example) just never loads - it appears to ignore the request - with not even a 'loading..' (or whatever) in firefox - but accesses to google are fine. He doesn't have a proxy set in...

Orange slow by Bill Ridgeway
Orange has had a reduced speed for some time now. Indeed, my contact at Orange has told me that they are not taking any reports of slow speed as they are working on the problem. Any ideas what the problem is, why it is so wide-scale, what may be the solution and (all important) when it may be resolved? Regards. Bill Ridgeway

Router Interference causing DSL resync? by sjcole@hotmail.com
Hi Folks, I've been battling with an issue for about 10 to 12 weeks now, and cannot get to the bottom of it. I'm totally sick of it now!! I have an ADSL2+ connection from Be* (Upto 24Mbps) - by default they supply a Thomson Speedtouch 780 router. Also by default they put you on a 6dB SNR profile with Interleaving. About 3 or 4 times a day the DSL signal would drop causing the router
