Improved the modem connection, but the download speed sucks. by TheOldFellow
Well, in the end I bit the bullet and moved the router next to the NTE5a with filtered faceplate. I ran a cat5e from the router 30 metres to my system. Result: Modem now connects at 5056/448 instead of 3200/448 however the speedtesters (Thinkbroadband and speedtest.net) reported rate has gone down from 1900 to 600! The cable is good quality solid Cat5e (from TLC) and I have a proper Krone...

Sky broadband by Sarah
Was thinking of signing my gran up to sky as she asked me to find someone cheap and good-ish. I signed up myself sometime ago and it was a ё30 one off set up fee now it gone up to ё50! Bloomin heck thats a bit of a price rise, I was definitely less than 6 months I signed up. Still works out cheaper than a lot.

Virgin Media News Server Downtime by Chris Dent
Have been reading the Horror Story posts on Google groups, but since 9am this morning: "Task 'news.virginmedia.com (NNTP) - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x80004005): 'The operation failed.'" My experience since starting to use the news service for the first time maybe a month ago is that this is the commonplace error. 10% uptime must be if anything an exaggeration. What also annoys...

Creeping upgrades by TheOldFellow
My router keeps reporting an increased line rate. Every few days the rate is better. I've had the line for 3 years, it's always synced at between 1200 and 1600 downstream with an Noise Margin of 6dB. I'm 6 K from the exchange in a rural location. Last month it jumped to 2000ish and now I check and it's 3072 with 6.6dB. I have not yet started my rewire of the phone/net with cat5e (I...

Trying to get my head around Pay As You Go Mobile Broadband by MB
I am trying to get my head around Pay As You Go Mobile Broadband. I want something that I use occasionally on trips away from home but I don't want charges if not using it for several months. I thought that 3's Pay As You Go service would meet my requirements then noticed that you could still be charged high charges if you exceeded your 1GB bandwidth. Do they need your credit card details...

MAC Code by Adrian Bainbridge
I got a MAC code from a provider but must've taken it down wrong. I have "LNE" at the beginning, but the new provider reckons there should be 4 letters. I wondered if there was a standard format for these and there'd be a good chance of someone knowing what the first part should really be? I can't get the MAC code again until tomorrow but wanted to get this order underway really.

Delete Emails On Sever Older Than by Steve Summers
I have set up a DIY CCTV system - Linksys Cameras send emails on detecting movement to a Gmail account. The system works well but it means that I have to log on to my Gmail account to delete the emails to stop the mailbox filling up. Is there anyway I could automatically delete emails older than say two weeks?
