| | BT Home Hub, WEP or WPA encryption ? by
David
Hi
More questions on broadband wireless routers from this broadband
newbie.
The information I have gathered on wireless security is saying that
WPA or WPA2 encryption should be used in preference to the older WEP
which is less secure.
I am considering BT option 1 (plus £30 extra for the Hub) so
downloaded the userguide for the Hub. The guide only mentions that the

I've recently moved to BT broadband from NTL. Wasn't unhappy with the
NTL service, I just wanted a cheaper internet connection. Now I've got
a BT Home Hub. One of the issues that I have, and BT say is not caused
by them, is that I cannot seem to setup a web server that is
accessible from the internet. I can see the server on my local network
and I've tried setting it to ports other than 80 but...

| | Explanation of Download Limit Needed by
TheScullster
Hi all
Complete broadband newbie so please be gentle.
Our one and only ISP (Karoo in Hull) have a starter service which includes a
2Gb download limit (per month presumably).
My understanding is that, as you surf, pages that you view are effectively
"downloaded" temporarily to your PC.
Presumably this traffic counts towards your 2Gb allocation along with any
files that you explicitly download...

| | VPN by
Grumps
Does anyone know of a VPN site that has a guest account?
I'm trying to test my PC/router/ISP(Nildram) with a VPN connection. It has
been working this morning, but now it will not connect properly. Other users
are able to connect so I am suspecting my ISP (unless the router has decided
to throw a wobly).

| | sky broadband cdrom by
Beck
Received my Sky router today.
In it they include a cd rom. Is this for proprietary connection software?
I use Vista so it may or may not install.
Don't really want to setup any dialling software in the style of BTYahoo.

| | Zoom X5v NAT timeout by
Jay L. T. Cornwall
Hi,
I have a Zoom X5v ADSL modem configured to forward outside connections
on port 22 to a machine on my internal network. This configuration works
fine, except that idle SSH sessions time out (as in just stop sending
packets - no TCP FIN appears) after a minute.
This behaviour doesn't appear on outbound connections, nor on
connections within the internal network. I suspect the modem's...

It is no use complaining here about ISP which do not live up to their
advertised claims, go To the Advertising Standards Authority who have a lot
more clout than newsgroups.
It is best to have an absolutely waterproof tale for them.
