Had to laugh yesterday. Have a customer using said service that I was
attempting to install.
Plugged in the 2wire router and got a constantly blinking broadband light
and no internet light at all.
No point progressing as obviously a problem with socket or router or more
likely exchange/line.
Rang support (at least it was UK based) where the suggestion was 'why not
try and plug in the router...

Motion
I've got my MAC from Sky, but the only thing is, who do I go to?!
I'm thinking of AOL as they give a Free Wireless Router with signups.
Anyone think of a better idea?
Thanks.

| | Nildram/Pipex traffic shaping by
Grumps
For all those interested, I have had it confirmed (by email from their
support team) that Nildram do NOT employ traffic shaping.
So now I cannot understand why P2P is so slow. Either;
a) I'm not getting the right torrents,
b) My router isn't set up with the right port forwards,
c) Someone is telling porkies.
Port forwards aren't exactly difficult to set up, and it used to work (last
year)...

| | How to get Orange to do more? by
JamesB
A friend is on Orange BB but has asked me to help out as he isn't very
"technical".
Basically his ADSL stopped working one day. Nothing changed as far as wiring
in his house etc. was concerned, but basically the router couldn't sync to
the exchange (DSL Light flashes, PPP light off).
We rang Orange support and they refused to help as we had a router, so I
dragged out the old Speedtouch USB...

| | Do tiscali stick adverts on all outgoing mail? by
Jim Howes
I just received some email from a friend; his address is @tiscali.co.uk, not
that there is anything wrong with that, other than tiscali being panned quite
regularly in this group, and offering a mass-market product with mass-market
levels of service (i.e. next to nothing actually useful)
However, I noticed that his email had
A) Originated from a 10.x.x.x address
B) Had a tiscali advert...

The UK government took over 22 billion pounds when selling off
licences to operate 3G. We propose that now is the time for the
government to invest some of that money in providing free WiFi access
in ALL towns & cities across the UK. The digital age is here.
Communication is vital. This country needs this infrastructure to be
readily available to all free of charge. This action will future...

| | DSL and DACS by
Great Eastern
Some of you may remember that I posted a while back regarding ADSL and a
DACS line.
I put in an order for ADSL with Zen, and the activation and first month
was paid on the 3rd Jan and I've been emailed this morning to say that
the order has been completed and ADSL activated.
Not in work today, but will set it up tomorrow and will believe it when
I see it! but I have to say I'm impressed...

| | ADSL Max, explain please?? by
Horse.trader
Being fairly new to broadband, I recently signed up for ADSL max, up to 8
Mbps broadband.
I was told for the next 10 days the speed would vary, finding the best speed
for my particular BT line.
That was 6 days ago, the speed began great, connecting at 4.9 Mbps, speeds
testing on line indication about 3.9 Mbps, now, 6 days later it's about 4.7
Mbps connection speed (to the exchange?) and...

| | data download monitoring software - recommendations by
m
Sorry to post again but I can't find one of the original postings with
this information.
My mate is being hassled by Virgin for large amount of downloading.
What's the best/most reliable 'FREE' software to use as monitor.
Some people suggest Ethereal (or Wireshark as it is now known) but their
page makes it sound terribley complicated.

| | Unusual Internet Problem by
naza
My internet speed is crap to be honest. i get 1meg when i live 400M
from the exchange and BT say that my line can get full 8meg and sky
say that i can get thier 16meg service as my line can handle 18meg.
But i only get the 1meg. So its probally one of the house extensions,
not quite. When i plug my router into the BT master socket on the wall
i get no internet siginal, no light at all. If i...

| | Sky BB - error code 300 by
diy-newby
Although the speed is good I am getting the occasional disconnect / or will
not connect at all.
When I go to the router set-up and press the "Test Sky" button it comes back
with error code 300. I have to keep re-booting and hope it will come back.
Anyone know exactly what this is?

| | Hope for PlusNet as Potesta goes by
Stan The Man
At last - a glimmer of hope for PlusNet's future came with today's
revelation that the industry's least customer-centric marketing
director, Marco Potesta has left the company. CEO Lee Strafford is
rumoured to be about to follow Potesta out of the door.
Potesta and Strafford are credited by some long-unhappy ex-customers
with being the architects of a concerted campaign to exploit and
disinform...

| | SKY SPEED by
Dave Boomhauer
I've finally migrated from namesco to Sky.
The router wouldn't connect to namesco when I got in from work and so I
connected up the Sky router and yes I'm on!
The speed test on thinkbroadband.com shows I'm connecting at 5 Mbits - the
most I got with namesco was 3!
Maybe it's too soon to comment, but I'm pleased so far!

| | Which ADSL router gives low priority to P2P traffic + better at keeping up ADSL connection. by
wrreisen2@yahoo.com
Hi,
I have 2 problems with a router I've purchased its an Edimax AR-7024A
router:
When ever I turn on emule or dc++ the Internet explorer traffic goes so
slowly even if there is almost no traffic coming off or going up to the
P2P. When I turn off these programs it goes back to its normal speed.
It is a 2Mbit ADSL connection.

times out. By connecting it direct to my router it's connecting.
So putting it as simple as I can I have a router where I have turned

Capri-Sun
Hi guys,
I signed up with ukonline under their 'ADSL2 rollout' scam and now im stuck
on 2mb with them refusing to upgrade and the performance getting worse and
worse. Is there any good unlimited ISPs out there? Im not bothered about
money - even £30 for 2mb is ok as long as I get 2mb all the time. It doesnt
even need to be completely unlimited, 50gb might do but im after almost a
