| | talktalk: a net to catch the nations fools by
tg
anyone who subscribes to talktalk is a gullible fool.
The broadband service from talktalk is disgraceful, (if it ever works at all) and when you want help from them the lines are
constantly jammed with long queues, sometimes you don't even get into a line, the automated message at talktalk says 'all agents
are busy, call back later'.
The guys who run talktalk are just a bunch of confidence...

| | Powerline/Homeplug - between neighbouring properties? by
John Geddes
I'm looking for a low-cost way of feeding our (community-owned) village
shop with a broadband feed from a generous neighbour who will allow the
shop to piggyback on their existing ADSL feed.
Leaving aside any issues about ISP rules on sharing, there is the issue
of how to get the feed across the road (the shop is on an "island" site
with roads on every side).
Wifi is not an attractive...

| | Newsgroup uk.media.broadband removed by
Chris Croughton as Control
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
The newsgroup uk.media.broadband has now been removed.
The reason for the removal is:
Traffic to this group has dropped to a level indistinguishable from
zero, and the posts that are written would tend to be better served by
posting to uk.telecom.broadband anyway, being enquiries of a technical
telecoms nature.

| | Hah, BT got me again :( by
Travec the Dacian
Having just migrated away from a very expensive BT Broadband package,
I thought I could be very clever and keep my BT pop3 email address
whilst subscribing to my new ISP. Not a chance! Today, just three
weeks after I migrated, BT stopped all pop3 access to my email
address, only allowing me to access my emails through their crappy
bt-yahoo webmail.
Further enquiries revealed that to enjoy...

| | ADSL - Getting BT To Install a New Copper Wire by
charlie
I've recently discovered that all the houses in our street originally
had all copper wires running from the telephone poles to the houses -
But about 15 years ago our cable blew down in a strom and BT came along
and replaced it with a cheapo Allumium Cable.
We struggle to keep a 1mb/s connection going with Plusnet, whilst next
door who recently got ADSL is zooming about at 7.8 mb/s.
We...

| | BT Business Broadband MaxDSL upgrade by
David Gouge
Hi all,
We have recently upgraded to 8Mb ADSL for our Business Broadband. Today
the adslguide speedtest is reporting 2.7 down and .7 up, which i
imagine means that we are currently in the 'training' section. Problem
is that whenever we try any consistent uploading (such as an ftp upload
to an external server) the speed shoots up to 80-ish KBper sec for about
10 seconds and then drops...

| | Buying from clarity.it by
Malcolm Knight
I've made five orders from Clarity.it over recent years and their
deliveries are always lamentably slow and this time I emailed an enquiry
about the delay.
"I know from several previous orders that speed of delivery is not your
strong point, but it would be appreciated if this one could be shipped
no later than tomorrow as it is required for a job this coming weekend."
It was ignored and...

| | Problems sending email with TalkTalk by
scamper
I've been using TalkTalk for quite a while now for broadband and I
didn't used to have any problems sending emails from my Mac. Recently,
I've been having problems where my emails get stuck in the outbox and I
keep getting an error saying that it couldn't connect to null smtp
server.
I think it's a TalkTalk problem as a few days later the emails will
miraculously send with no changes at my end...

| | Be There - Any User Feedback? by
section.xiv@ntlworld.com
Hello,
I'm considering changing ISP to Be There, www.bethere.co.uk which
looks like a reasonable LLU offer.
There's not much feedback on their performance here or in
www.adslguide.org.uk , apart from the usual difficulty of MAC release
or ceasing ADSL on an LLU'd line.
Has anyone any actual experience of the reliability of their service?

| | Unexpected results with Draytek Vigor 2800v by
Adam Lipscombe
Folks,
I bought a Draytek Vigor 2800v because according to everything I have read this a very good router,
and I need the unlocked VOIP functionality.
But I find that is connects at only 75% of the speed of the BT business hub (aka 2Wire 2700) that it
replaced. Typically the 2wire connects at 2528/448 while the Vigor only connects at 1880/448.
