Sky Netgear Router by allisont
Hi I have a Sky Netgear router DG834gt which keeps disconnecting and I have to re-boot the router everytime I turn the machine on... it then works perfectly until I switch off. The firmware is version V1.02.28 ~ is there an upgrade... I have tried the 3 upgrades shown on the Netgear support page but when I try to instal them they say its not valid. (I previously had a netgear router and used...

Talk-Talk Broadband - what modem do you get? by Maneate
Been asked by a friend about Talk-Talk BB and the modem that gets supplied. Looked at their site but cannot find straight answers to the questions. Does anyone here know the answers to the bits below? 1- If you do not buy the 'optional' modem pack at £29.99, do you still get filters sent or do you have to buy separately? 2- What make/model is the modem they refer to? Is it really special or...

Another Openreach Begging Letter by Pier Danone
Yesterday saw another Openreach begging letter sent by it's CEO 'Steve Robertson' who famously blundered within a few days of his appointment by describing Openreach as an organisation that looked after the 'Last Mile of copper' to the customers premesis. The letter was sent to most Openreach staff but aimed mostly at it's already demoralised engineers. It basically is telling engineers how...

PING: Tiscali BB customers by Bob Smith
I just noticed Tiscali prices dropped again, so it is time to do your "upgrade" to save your few quid a month! Since Tiscali don't auto change your price, or email their customers, I thought I would remind you! Bob

ntl static ip address? by simonclark123@hotmail.com
Does anybody know whether NTL offer a static ip address, if requested? I don't mind paying extra for it, but NTL tell me that they cannot do this for me 'for technical reasons'. (I have the 10meg consumer package). Many thanks for any help. Regards

Any way to block internet access for a specific win2000 user? by Peter Crosland
I need to completely block connectivity to specific user accounts. I know that with a domain controller one can do this, but this is a workgroup network. There are some 3rd party add-on which can do this, but I wonder if there is a way to do it within windoze. I can do parts of it, by changing that user to Admin privileges, logging in as the user, then using secpol.msc etc to...

Wireless route/cable modem - newbie question by Dave Spencer
Firstly, apologies if this one's a FAQ. Unfortunately I can't access the group's FAQ to avoid shooting myself in the foot :-( Anyway. For (goodish) reasons I won't bore you with, I've currently got both BT and cable broadband connections. BT goes via a D-Link DSL-G604T wireless router (with 4 Ethernet ports) , Telewest via their own cable modem (Motorola SB5100), which has one Ethernet and...

TalkTalk modem stats? by Peter Crosland
I just got a phone call from a non computer literate friend who has had the standard TalkTalk modem installed by their so called computer whiz kid nephew. The various line checking sites suggest that their line should support about 3Mb on a MAXED connection, but Windows XP reports a line speed of 1MB when they connect. The friend was warned not to do so but the lure of "free" broadband was...
