Talk Talk by Muddypaws
So far complete nightmare, I even took a day off work so I could actually talk to a human being, although that is debateable when you get through! I have subsequently found out that they do not support newsgroups, is there a free news usenet server I can use through Outlook Express? Unfortunately I went from bad to worse, went from BT Internet where the connection was intermittent every day for...

router recommendation invited from installers by Len Packman
There are many experienced and knowledgeable people on this forum who install and maintain routers for a living/hobby. Perhaps you can give a definite recommendation for ADSL modem/router models based on your experience? Need reliability more than speed or wireless coverage. It's hard to make a judgement from reader reviews of vendor sites as there are always bad ones among the many good....

Problems at Eclipse? by Roger Matthews
Having been a pretty satisfied customer of Eclipse for years, I am now finding that my RADSL connection which had been running (512 Kbs sometimes, 1 Mbs mostly, just under 2 Mbs sometimes) now is almost unusable. It struggles along around 100 Kbs and largish downloads are a thing of the past (I have done the obvious - swap the filter, disconnect the phone & sky box, reboot the router etc, to...

what wireless card to go with Netgear DG834G router by iain robinson
hi all Considering buying a Netgear DG834G wireless router and I always said when I went wireless I would get the NIC's from the same supplier to eliminate (as far as possible) any compatibility issues but is that really still necessary? I setup a couple of wireless networks about 2 years ago and teh one that had all teh kit from teh same supplier was certainly a lot easier but teh other...

Another wanadoo/orange wireless problem... by Kaplan
Hi all, I've been using a Wanadoo livebox for a year and a half or so. My computer is connected via ethernet and my wife's is using the wireless adaptor. I must be one of the lucky ones because I have until now had no issues or problems. What has happened in the last couple of days is that my wife's computer has no longer been able to connect. She hasn't done anything to the computer and I have...

Blueyonder speeds past midnight by mafustokes
Was wondering if anyone else had same speeds as me - or faster than the option you're on. I'm on 10mb but I've been noticing lately that past midnight I get much faster. Tonight at 1am I was getting 16mb-18mb on the adsl speed test(adslguide.org.uk). To be honest I've only tested this over the past couple of nights but was curious if anyone else had been getting similar effects. During day I...

Help Please - Legal advise needed. ISP in breach of contract & wondering how to pursue. by WillC
Hi all, We are a small business with a long standing account with an ISP. We regraded a 2 Mbit ADSL line with 128 static IPs about 6 weeks ago. During the regrade the subnet masking was misconfigured and our 128 static IPs were reduced to 6. The ISP acknowledged the fault after 1 week of me calling everyday until

I keep getting back on. I just want him/her/it to know that netnannies have no clout...that's official.

ISDN phone systems by Dr Teeth
I know it's a tad OT, but at work where we hope to get broadband (not completely OT g). I was told that we are getting a phone system in that uses ISDN. We have four lines and if somebody dials a number that is busy, the call will switch to a free number automatically. 1) Is the above really ISDN and 2) if it is, is it compatible with ADSL?

TVL Demands License for Laptop and WiFi by CJB
I've just had an aggressive demand from our 'friends' the TVL for a new laptop I've just purchased with Windows Media Centre and a t.v. card. However the t.v. reception and display is so damned awful that I am seriously thinking of getting the t.v. card removed. This test was at a location that is IS licensed for t.v. reception, but anyway I'm damned if I'm going to pay for a second license just...

advice on best ISP for us by Aaron Borbora
Hi, I know that regular group users must get sick of these questions, but I do need a bit of advice. We have had virgin.net for a few years now and, to be honest, it has never worked properly. It's common to go for days without being able to connect. We set it up to work with a netgear DG834G router, for our PC and laptop. This might well be the problem, but we have contacted them on many...

ISP Switch should I jump? by BIGEYE
I am currently with Zen and paying £30/month for 1 Meg connection. On top of this I have BT line rental + calls. The Pipex Homecall Broadband with Anytime calls package & line rental looks an attractive package. This offers unlimited usage (no FUP). I have a few questions to help make up my mind. 1. What is their broadband service like in terms of reliability? 2. Is their offer of unlimited...

OneTel / Talk Talk outage by techpro
Anyone know what the problem is with OneTel / Talk Talk? My broadband connection has been down since this time yesterday. The status freefone line says that they are aware of a problem and are working on it, but gives no indication as to when the service will be back. I am posting this via Free Dial-up (which of course is not free, it's an 0845 number.) I wonder if OneTel (who also provodes my...
