Customer owned fibre - the way ahead? by alexd
Interesting article about a project in Canada to sell the last mile to customers for about 3000USD per household: http://arstechnica.com/articles/culture/customer-owned-fiber.ars I'm particularly optimistic about the analogy of how we moved from telco- owned CPE to customer-owned CPE, and how customer-owned fibre will bring similarly dramatic benefits to customers. --

Anyone know reliable POP3 and auth SMTP email provider? by Andrew Hodgson
Hi, Based on my previous thread about friend going with dodgy broadband company. I initially set them up with Gmail, however, there is mail on the Gmail server which is not always popping into their Outlook client. Does anyone know a free or cheap email provider that doesn't require your own domain, and provides POP and SMTP authenticated access?

I joined Btinternet and am currently getting connection speeds slightly in excess of 1000kbps. The reported maximum line connection speed from Btinternet for me was 3mb. Two years ago I was...

Line speeds by ato_zee@hotmail.com
anybody got any suggestions (Polite ones please)....to rectify the situation. Are you talking about sync speed, or deliverered by a speedtest site, speeds? Your friend may be using a different modem to your current one for BTinternet, and it may be syncing at a higher speed. Is wireless involved, or are your quoted speeds those you get when your modem is plugged directly into your NTE5 tset...

BT Wholesale ADSL Max va LLU providers by Confused : - \(
I am confused! I currently have a live that syncs at around 3776 down (on ADSL Max) and have been looking at moving to an LLU provider. Today I checked my chosen LLU provider and they have given me (what they call) an accurate estimate of 6.4 Mbps speed, which seems pretty good to me seeing as at present my router syncs at 3776 on ADSL Max. My question is, can I expect to see an improvement in...

Netgear question by Hankjam
Hope this is noddy. I have a DG834GT box and just recently two of the "lights" in the middle, round one and the post with circle at bottom, seem to spend their time blinking away.... and they never used to. Nothing is happening on my local area connection status.
