Faceplates again--groan by Allan
My present faceplate has the BT Piper logo, but between it and the line, there is another terminal block. It is about 2-3/4 inches X 1-1/2 inches, slightly rounded in shape. I think it was the original terminal before BT added the 'new' faceplate. If I were to 'legally' fit a new faceplate, could I replace the present one, seeing that there is another block before the outside line? Allan

Central splitter question by Rob
Is there any electrical difference between a "central splitter" which is connected to the master socket with two outlets one giving adsl and the other giving a "clean feed" to ALL the other phones in the house, and a normal splitter as given with a broadband router? Is there any reason why I should not install a single ordinary (good quality) splitter at the master socket and then use its...

Plusnet treacle (again) by tx2
The web is unusable tonight - pages are loading more slowly than i recall they used to on a 14.4 modem connection! I have logged into the BT Test page, and get a speed of 1873kbps, so i guess the problem is not my own network (tracert to router confirms that) but that of Plusnet. Logging into Google groups and Plusnet's own portal was like wading through treacle with lead weights attached to...

Current best broadband deals? by Jeremy
Virgin offers a 512kbps (3gb monthly limit) with a wireless router for £70 set-up and £14.99. Seems like a good deal to me. Just a quick sanity check - is that a good deal? It is for a relative who will not be in the least bit demanding (very light user) and is on a limited budget.

WL-500G Wireless Access Point Router & NTL by progger
Hi, Im thinking about buying a WL-500G Wireless Access Point Router as I am buying an asus notebook and this will be cheap if bought together. My problem is that I am on Cable (NTL) and they dont recomend any routers so I have no idea what kind of wirless router to buy. I know and ADSL modem one will be no good but what about this one? If any of you are on NTL and already have a wireless router...

Legend / Pipemedia refuse to issue MAC codes! by Adrian Brentnall
HI A non-newsgroup-savvy friend of mine (yes - honestly !) has a Broadband connection through Pipemedia (who now seem to have morphed into something called 'Legend'). He's been having terrible reliability problems for some months now - which the ISP claimed was a local problem with his BB router (supplied by them). He's returned the router, they've lost it, and now 'rediscovered' it - a week...

4mb speed download per hour? by
Evening Everyone! Would somebody be kind enough to calculate the amount I can download an hour with a 4mb connection, with 448 upstream. Assume conditions are perfect, I just want to know the maximum. I know this never actually happens, and many factors effect the speed etc etc. I just want to compare the "maximum" with my "actual" speed.

Plusnet Upgrade email by Beck
Had an email from Plusnet this morning saying my product had changed name, but more importantly they are kickstarting the upgrades. I will upgraded to adsl max up to 8mb in the coming months. They don't give a time frame or upgrades, anybody know if there is a set time frame for this?
