| | Spam/ISP by
Billy Bamboo
Hi everybod
I have just come back from hols. I had a nice present of
1125 spams waiting for me. I phoned up orange and asked for a new account.
They said open a hotmail acc. I said I am paying you for an isp acc and you
are telling me to do a HOTMAIL acc, and they do it for nothing? They told me
I could not have a another acc. I told them I want my MAC, because I am
changing...

| | Broadband Advice, Please by
Strider J M
I have a Belkin Pre-N router with D-Link 300 ADSL modem (which has the
dreaded AR7 chipset).
My main computer (an Apple iMac) is connected via Ethernet cable to the
router and my wife's computer upstairs (a Dell Dimension 9150) uses a
wireless card. Between her PC and the router are 2 walls (breezeblock?)
but the connexion status is 'very good' according to Windows XP.
For the past few...

| | Speed up broadband for business line by
Adam Lipscombe
Hi
Recently BT have introduced a "guaranteed" speed increase of at least 512k for a £90.00 fee. No
speed increase, no fee. On my slow line this would be quite a jump, and well worth having.
I phoned them to arrange it and they said it only applies non-business lines. Mine is a business line.
Does anyone know if there is something similar for business lines?

| | Profile reduced by
Mike
My profile was reduced from 7000 to 4000 on the 11th June. For the last 6
months I have always got between 6400 &7200 on tests. Now get between 3800 &
just managed 4200 this morning. Could uploading a small amount of data
(about 22kb) every 10 seconds 24/7 have caused or be responsible for the
profile remaining low?. Would it help to shut the router down overnight as I
understand that is...

| | Upgrade Speed by
Steve
I'm about to change my ISP.
I currently have an "8 Mb" service from Nildram which shows about 2.5 Mbps
on a speed checker.
So, is there any point to going for a "16 Mb" service with my new ISP
(probably O2)?
It seems there are two possibilities. Either my line is limited to about 2.5
Mbps, in which case the faster service is wasted. Or maybe the faster
service will double my download speed...

| | Router can connect to broadband but cannot ping external addresses by
Mortimer
A customer has a problem with her ADSL connection. It worked until a few
days ago but now, although the router can still connect and is given valid
WAN IP, gateway and DNS server addresses by the ISP (BT Broadband), she
cannot access any web sites - pinging any site either by domain name or IP
fails with "cannot resolve" or "no reply" respectively.
I've tried with a different router and a...

| | Warning - Bullguard causes problems! by
George Weston
Just a word of warning to anyone buying a computer from Mesh (or any other
computer supplier that bundles Bullguard Security).
I bought a new computer from Mesh for my daughter to replace her old one.
Yesterday, I spent all day setting it up, but couldn't get Internet Explorer
or Outlook Express to work.
I spent quite a bit of time on the phone to her ISP, doing various tests,
which showed...

I`ve found a site that tells me ADSL is ceasing on 30th June but not much

petert
Hi,
I am using a Belkin Pre-N broadband router/modem and need to disable
the wireless function completely - i.e. I don't just want to disable
the Broadcast SSID function.
Can anyone please tell me if this is possible and if so what I need to
do?

dom.k.black@googlemail.com
Hi,
After several relatively problem free years with Pipex broadband, last
October I switched to a capped broadband plus anytime phone. Since
then everything has gone horribly wrong.
First I started seeing random amounts for additional bandwidth on my
bills. Pipex didn't reply to my emails so I had to phone, and
eventually they admitted these bills were actually for calls. And also
that they...
