Paul
Hi
Am very new to this so pls be patient
I currently use a laptop with a wireless LAN card and the above router which
works fine - I had this set up for me by a friend so am not too familiar
with how he did it but understand the basics. Basically he disabled Windows
handling the networking on the PC as it's only running Windows XP SP1 and he
set up the router for my home network making it...

| | www.orange.co.uk not available? by
Boss Hog
I'm looking for a replacement PAYG for my teenage daughter, so have been
'shopping' around on the net for some deals.
However, I haven't been able to resolve www.orange.co.uk (or .com) all
day today, and was wondering if anyone else had issues?
I've tried a TRACERT, but that just says site can't be resolved....

| | Onetel connection problems by
terryguard62-google@yahoo.com
Hi there,
I recently switched from NTL to onetel and have installed their
software and I am using there USB modem. The problem I get is that
sometimes it connects and at others it does not. On further
examination it appears that it always connects to the server but
sometimes fails to verify my userid/password. It appears that this
occurs mostly at peak times so I suspect that the server is...

| | very rural exchange activation by
rgdavidson@gmail.com
I live in a very rural location and my exchange is going to be
activated 31/12/2005
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php?page=0&direction=DESC&order=enabled
does this mean I'll be able to get any broadband provider, or will I
have to use a local "connected communities" scheme, which is rather
poor value compared to other providers?

| | 7db attention by
Rob
According to my new 3com wireless router, I have 7db attention on my line.
I'm assuming from what I seen online, that is a good figure. I ask as, I
was concerned some time back due to drop outs, that my ADSL line wasn't
very good. Since I have the new router, its the first time I've been able
to check the attention.
Incidentally, the line was noisy, and although BT said there was...

Andrew
I have a cordless telephone (BT Quartet 1100) plugged into the master socket
in the lounge via a microfilter. My modem (Origo ASR-8000) is connected to
the telephone line in the spare room upstairs through an ADSL-Nation
filtered faceplate. When the modem is switched on there is an audible buzz
on the telephone when making calls. As soon as the modem is switched off
the buzz goes...

| | Problem web sites by
John DH
Hi all,
I have noticed an improvement in tiscali speeds over the last few days, but
what is happening now is that some web sites wont download at all.
I am wondering if this may be down to my computer set-up. This site in
particular is a pain to download www.pprune.com where as before it was fine,
there are others as well, including the BBC web site.
Any ideas?

| | Lost mail bounces - problem confirmed by
jelv
Ben Brown has made the post quoted below to the Plusnet portal forums
confirming that mail bounces will be lost for mail sent via the Plusnet
servers which does not reach it's intended destination. This will
include emails sent via the PN mail servers from the ccgi platform.
As you can see he doesn't expect this to be fixed until the new year. He
considers it is low priority so I don't...

| | ISPs with premium-quality binary newsgroup access? by
Me
Zen's binary newsgroup service is pretty good with a lot of completion
though you still need your par files. The retention is only a few days but
that's enough.
Are there any other ISPs with premium-quality binary newsgroup access built
in?

Steve Harvey
Hi,
I received the email, quoted below, from my ISP (Pipex) back in
September which informed me that BT could not upgrade my line for 1Mb "at
this time".
I was wondering if anyone else may have received such a letter and has
sucessfully challenged it and got their service upgraded later.
Thanks in advance

| | Does the Network Card matter? by
Chris
Does the Network Card matter?
Are some better than others?
I'm trying to track down ADSL problems and inconsistencies - and it has
just occurred to me that a particular NIC might possibly be relevant.
It is a Netgear FA331, which was given away free when I bought my first
Netgear DG834 router.
It may (or may not) be affecting the noise margin.

Hello,
Since last Thursday night, almost a whole week, my BTYahoo adsl
connection has been offline. Not due to the adsl being down but no ppp
negotiation. Prior to last Thursday night everything was working okay.
I'm right on the fringe of what is considered by BT as a adsl capable
line which is helped by the use of an Origo ASR8400 router instead of
the BT supplied Alcatel Speedtouch USB...

Landrover
We have a DSL-G624M which was operating fine with the default LAN IP address
of 192.168.1.1 We needed to change this setting to 10.0.0.1 to suit our
existing network plan. When the IP address is changed using remote
management, the LOG file notes this change, and the DHCP server updates the
scope to the 10.0.0.1 range which is fine, BUT, the STATUS still shows
192.168.1.1 and the LAN page...
