| | Lazy microfilter question by
grrdarnit@googlemail.com
Just to clarify, I'm being lazy, not the microfilter.
I just need to ask if I have a reasonable set up to my Wireless Modem
Router.........
The main BT box is located near my front door, but I need the modem to
be located in the middle room downstairs or the signal strength is low
in the rooms at the back of the house upstairs.
So I am using a telephone extension cable from the main box to...

| | Question for kraftee? by
Howard Neil
Hi,
Today I have had a wiring fault. I have corrected it but I am puzzled by
it and would like to learn what has happened in case it ever happens again.
Basically, my router kept dropping DSL every few seconds. I checked with
the test socket and got a solid connection. I went to the first slave
socket and disconnected any extensions from there. No good. I took the
faceplate off and...

| | Which ISP for an old lady with no previous by
TheOldFellow
I have to recommend a low cost ISP for a friend, she's in her 70s and
this will be her 1st computer, and her first ISP.
I don't expect her bandwidth requirements will top 1Gb/month for the
first year. We are not close to the exchange, I get 1.5Mb, she is
about the same distance, so we are not expecting 5M - and the exchange
is not LLUed at all (according to Sam).
Madasafish seem to have the...

| | Virgin ADSL cap limit is now just 80kbps ! by
jdr.smith@virgin.net
Hi All,
OK, I've had rubbish speed all week so decided I'd call Virgin Media
and speak to someone about it.
He said that I'm on the 'Capped User' list for the whole of this week
as I had downloaded more than 5GB last week.
I told him that I was only getting around 70kbps during the evenings
and he didn't seem at all surprised by this as he said that the capped

| | My Appeal To A Minority Group - BT Customers by
Tom Burton
If you fall into any of the above categories simply fish out the little
envelope that comes with your bill, put the junk leaflets inside of it
(remember to keep your bill) and write something suitable across them -
such as 'you waste much more ink printing this leaflet than you do my
bill' and pop it back in the postbox WITHOUT A STAMP ON IT. For extra
effect stick a 'special...

TheScullster
Hi all
I am looking for advice on methods of Internet access for roaming laptop
users.
Specifically this may include a requirement for Skype type VOIP
connectivity.
These users will be travelling literally anywhere in the world and staying
for upto 6 months.
Likely destinations are Europe, Russia and former Russian countries.

| | Free email which allows my own .co.uk by
Trent SC
Hi,
I've registered my own .co.uk domain and my current ISP won't allow me to
use this domain when I send emails. Since this is being done on the cheap,
is there a free email provider which will allow me to register my domain
with them and send emails with the appropriate domain in the 'from' and
'reply' fields?
I've tried gmail, but the outgoing emails appear as on behalf...

| | Virgin Media traffic management by
colenum
I am aware of the traffic management policy that Virgin Media uses. I
have a Size M connection (2Mb) and it is limited to 1Mb for 5hrs if
more than 300MB are downloaded between 4pm to 9pm.
http://www.virginmedia.com/help/traffic-management.php
Therfore in theory, with a 2Mb connection it will take 20 minutes to
download 300MB so I should be able to start a large download after
about 8:45pm and...

| | ADSL "Modem only" devices by
Darren
Currently on telewest cable broadband but moving to ADSL2+
The modem they provide give an ethernet output for which i can connect
any router i want, e.g. Apple airport base station.
Is this same scenario possible with an ADSL modem? I can only seem to
find ADSL modems with USB (Speedtouch), not ethernet.
Do I need to buy a new built in adsl modem router? this would be a

| | M$ Outlook spam filters - what exactly are they? by
Peter
I send email from a secure SMTP AUTH server, but one which is running
on a unix machine on the end of an ADSL line.
The ISP (Eclipse) assure us that the fixed IP is not part of any
dynamic IP block, and indeed we have never found this IP in any of the
blacklists, including those that claim to carry dynamic IP blocks.
Yet quite a lot of my emails end up in peoples' spam filters. Nearly
everybody...

Daz
I am moving into a property with a disconnected BT line from the previous
tenants (the line is still physically connected and there is a box on the
wall)
A few years ago, when this was the case, connection was free and you were
subject to 3 month minimum term.
Is this still the case?
