Hi there,
My cousin looked into getting a BT Line and they wanted £160 to put
one in. It used to be £125 for the line so this is a lot of money.

| | slightly OT: strange problem logging onto sites by
Iain
Hi all
I built a PC for the mother-in-law recently, setup her Broadband and all
has been well until Friday. She can browse the web no problem but can't
log into Hotmail, nor can she log into Talk Talk to check her account
details. She presses "Sign In" after entering her details and then
nothing happens and I think it eventually times out. Trying to assist
over the phone I got her to log in as a...

David
For 24 hours now Tesco.net have not had their servers supplying me with NGs,
anyone else effected?
Tesco I guess do not have servers but use a subcontractor so other ISPs
might well be effected.
24 hours off seems a long time to fix.
Tesco web page says more news at 10-30am.

| | Tag On line & Neither Tiscali Or BT Taking Ownership Of Problem by
moox7
I recently moved house and arranged with my broadband supplier,
Tiscali, to transfer the service to my new address.
Having moved in I have no broadband. On phoning Tiscali, they say
there is a ‘tag on the line and I have to contact BT’.
When contacting BT I’m told ‘it’s not there tag and it’s up to my
provider to resolve’.
Can anyone advise how to proceed as I’m getting nowhere?

| | Newsgroup messages not downloading. by
DB.
I use Tesco broadband and Outlook Express and am subscribed to 12
newsgroups.
For fully 3 years clicking on "Synchronise Account" had downloaded
new messages to those ngs without problem, but since about mid-day on
June 30th "SA" has brought down no new messages. The Checking /
Downloading panel with its list of ngs appears and is run through, but
in each case I am told there are no new...

| | Should I move to Virgin Media Cable? by
Confused of Bristol
There is approx 900 metres of cable between my PC and the exchange and I've
had the line checked and been told it is up to spec. ADSL Max is available.
However most online broadband checkers advise I can only get a maximum speed
of 2 meg on my line. This is odd, as I know someone that lives a bit further
from the same exchange than I do and they get a 6 meg connection through BT.
I've had...

DAB sounds worse than FM
The exchange I'm on has got a WBC 21CN activation date of next Wednesday.
Should I expect the earth to move?

The adoption of DAB was the most incompetent technical
decision ever made in the history of UK broadcasting:

Mark
Hi ... The GF is moving into a new (rented) flat. The guy leaving has been
with TW/BY/VM for a few years. Are they likely to allow her to 'take over'
his account (+ she wants to downgrade - doesn't need the TV stuff)?
Cheers ... Mark

| | Upgrading Netgear DG834G (V3) firmware by
Maurice Batey
I notice on Netgear's Web site that various firmware upgrades are
available for my router, in particular:
4.01.37 (for outside NA) 24/3/08
4.01.28 (for UK) 31/5/07
The question is, is it 4.01.37 or 4.01.28 that should be used in
the UK?

| | Best ISP for Static IP address and high usage? by
Mike P
I want an ISP that will give me a static IP address and won't mind how much
I download/upload. I do not mind paying £50-70 a month if that is what's
neccessary..
any recommendations?
Cheers

| | Can I get 24Mb ADSL2+ or not? by
Doughboy
I'm a bit confused because if I enter a neighbour's phone number into
Be's website (I don't have an active BT line at the moment), it offers
me all 3 Packages.
I just became aware of this site http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/
which says this about my local exchange:
"BT are currently upgrading each exchange to be able to offer WBC
which will also bring ADSL2+ speeds of up to 24Mbps."
