Hi,
I had a 1.1 line which worked ok without performance problems. After a month
it became very very slow. It was downloading at around 10kB/sec. I reported
it to my ISP who logged a fault with BT. About a week later it was running
at 80-90 kB/sec so I thought good they have fixed it. This lasted for 2-3
hours then went back to being 10kB/sec.
After a few more days my linespeed went to an...

| | House wiring: how best to connect? by
Martin Underwood
I will be installing a wireless router for a customer who has various
plug-in extensions, probably not BT-installed, plugged into the master
socket. The router will be connected to the master socket. Is there any
advantage in connecting all the other extensions to the phone socket of the
microfilter, rather than connecting them directly to the master socket - ie

Thinking of going over to Broadband. I am presently with Wanadoo
dial-up.
I am not to sure what the true significance of the 'capping' is. I
have retired now and am on line a lot also my son downloads music.
What happens if you do go over the say 3GB do you get cut offf until
next month or do you get a nasty bill?
I think what I should be asking what is the cheapest non-capped

We have our house up for sale and hope to move to cumbria when sold.
We are moving into a ADSL enabled area and have dial up at the moment.
Have looked around and there seems to be a couple of providers doing a
telephone+broadband+line rental package.
The ones I have seen so far are onetel, NTL and Homecall anyone have
experience or know of any other companies doing the same, requirements are...

| | How can I tell sync speed by
Mike Tullett
I have a Belkin 54g Wireless router which indicates the actual down/up data
rates, currently 576 and 288. I have a feeling my DSLAM has been upgraded
to the new higher speeds, currently coming online on the BT network. Is
there a way I can check my sync speed for this router?

| | Central Point BB bought out by FAST24 by
OnTheRun
Hi guys.
Not had any complaints with CPBB as of yet (apart from the price which was
actually really good when I started with them!) But it appears from their
website (www.cpbb.co.uk) that FAST24 have bought em out. I can't find that
much about FAST24, but what I can find doesn't appear to be that great.
Anyway a copy of the press release....

| | Broadband+ Student House? by
Chris Pape
Hi all,
I've been pointed in your knowledgeable direction to ask a couple of posers!
There are 7 of us moving into a house for the next student year, and we all
want to use broadband on our own individual computers, through the same
broadband account, and we are not sure how to go about it. Do we need a
wireless router and then a wireless card in each of our computers, or is
there a better...

| | Bare board ADSL Filter? by
Andrew Gabriel
Is there a bare board ADSL filter with punchdown or screw terminals
suitable for putting in to a piece of equipment which directly
terminates a phone line?
I could always pull a regular one apart or dangle wires with the
right connectors from it, but was wondering if something of this
type already exists?

| | Are there any reliable ISPs at £20pm or less? by
Peter P
Looking for a reliable 1mb uncapped (or capped at around 4gb) ISP.
Demon would be my first choice, but £30pm is more than I can afford.
Is there anything in that league at £20 or less.
Thanks for any help.

How can I tell when my ISP (Tiscali - so known for being difficult to get

They have said upto 15 days from cancellation.
I did have a link

to use which would show the BT work order but that no longer seems to work

| | Upgrade now or later? by
BIGEYE
My monthly payment to Zen for 512k is due on 2nd June. I am considering an
upgrade to 1 Meg, should I pay for the 512 k connection now or wait until
the new reduced prices come into effect. Or should I request upgrade after I
paid my 24.99 for monthly
512 k.
TIA

| | Is BT Broadband Basic worth considering? by
Simon
Hello -
I'm looking for a broadband supplier for my non-technical parents. They want
something faster than their modem, but their current usage is less than
500MB per month.
Having had a bad experience with accounts departments of another ISP, I'm
reluctant to recommend them paying via direct-debit or
continuous-credit-card, so BT Broadband Basic (with the 1GB/month limit and
payment by cheque)...

Bob Smith \(UK\)
I got a snotty email from Tiscali saying they have a "fair usage" policy of
30 gigs up and down per month, and I am exceeding it.
I went looking around, and found UK Online. They only charge £9.99 for a
512kbs service, and specifically mention 500 gigs per month as fair usage.
Since there is no such thing as a cheap uncapped service, I was wondering
where is the catch?
They say they are...

Well, for anyone who had to wait for extended reach ADSL this may be of
interest.
When I initially applied for Broadband, I was turned down....too far
from the exchange (although I only live 2 miles out of the city of
Lancaster).
Following the Extended Reach trials, I was told I could get ADSL.
Applied through Pipex, and have had no problems with the service at all.
I use Broadband a...
