| | Wanted - link to "beginner's guide to choosing Broadband" by
John Geddes
Our village gets ADSL in four weeks, and to reduce the number of people
calling me for advice, I thought I'd set up a page on the village
website to talk people through the basics of the technology and the
questions to ask themselves when choosing an ISP.
Rather than write it all from scratch, it struck me that there might be
something suitable already online.
Has anyone come across a...

johnydeath
http://www.talktalk.co.uk/talktalk/servlet/gben-broadband-Home
and choose their free Option 1 package to go with it.
Its IPStream too
I'm actually gutted as I cannot get 1Mb, so if I want broadband from
Talk Talk I have to go for their 1/2Mb package costing more at £19.99!!!

Hi All,
I was just trying to help a friend of a friend over the phone who it
sounds like had 'free internet access for 1 year' bundled with her
Tiny / Time machine (not a good start I know ..)
The free offer elapsed and she carried on PAYG but then it kept asking
her to sign up?
She then tried Tesco PAYG but can't complete the sign-up with them due

Simon Ough
Hi group,
Spent a few hellish years on Pipex. Been with NDO for exactly one year now
on 1MBit. Latency is an issue with this ISP (V.Slow to start downloads etc)
so looking at possible migration. I'm wanting:
2MBit connection if possible
Unlimited bandwidth (or at least a 30GB limit)
Min 2 email accounts
Newsgroup access

| | Which ISP for a Charity - do they all charge at business rate? by
km
Can anyone recommend an ISP which can give a service at normal
domestic rates, or special low rates. I was hoping to use Plusnet
£14.99 as the intended use will be for no more than 3 hours per day
three days a week. Unfortunately this isn't available as Charities are
deemed to be businesses.

| | NTL confusion by
J Smith
Hi,
I'm interested in getting NTL broadband with the free offpeak calls. I
also want a package where I can download at least 1 GB a day.
http://www.home.ntl.com/icat/broadband&source=ntlcom_bblink
According to the above URL I need the 2Mb package to get 1 GB a day
transfer. If I follow the URLs to the £21.99 unlimited off-peak calls
package I get to this page:

| | DLink DSL 300G+ and ATA486 won't work together by
roberto
Hi everyone,
I have a problem connecting my modem DSL300G+ with the Grandstream
HandyTone 486. I'm using this modem since two years attached to a
Linux box that gets the public IP without problems. I wanted to
connect the ATA486 in between but it gets always the private IP (i.e.
192.168.0.2) from the modem instead of the public one. Then the dhcp
server of the ATA works fine with the PC.
I saw...

| | My Netgear router thinks Ebay is the same as s*x!! by
hs
I want to block some websites on my home network. I used to use the
HOSTS file, which worked fine up to a point, although it was a pain
maintaining the file up to date. Then I looked at DNSKong, which
seemed really good on paper, but I never managed to set it up
properly.
Then I got a Netgear DG834g router (magic!) and found the 'Block
sites' function very functional. However it seems to...

| | Scottish Executive 100% coverage by end of year? by
GJW
Does anyone know what is happening with the Scottish Executive's pledge for
affordable broadband for all by the end of the year? There was a tender put
out in November but I've heard nothing since. This mainly affects the South
of Scotland and the Highlands where there are many so-called 'unviable'
exchanges. Hopefully, Updata will get the contract and upgrade all exchanges
just as they are doing...

Dr. Compynei
ADSL Checker Results (for 0120439**3)
Your telephone exchange BOLTON (LCBOL) does support ADSL however there is a
generic incompatible product on your line which would prevent you from
successfully applying for ADSL.
Does anyone know what this could mean?
I am applying for Broadband for a theatre, and we get this result on our
main number. However everythings okay on our seperate box office...

Cheap as chips for a 24x7 *unlimited* connection that's faster than my
old pipex one (of course just my own experience).

| | Netgear DG834G vs DG834GT by
Mike NG
Saw these in micro anvika today
To me they look like the same router apart from
DG834G - 54MB/s - £90
DG834GT - 108 MB/s - £150
Is the DG834GT worth paying the extra 66% ?
