Tiscali are truly appalling. by gram
After reading the bad press about Tiscali I thought I would be clever and go with them and ignore the advice I have just cancelled ,they without doubt the most appalling company in terms of service. Their customer services people change their stories and go back on what they say. Their technical support staff also change their stories and are inept. Christ, I didn't realise how unprofessional...

A strange problem with Pipex by Alec
I have Pipex ADSL line. When I try to access some websites (such as Onestopphoneshop), it either doesn't open or if it does, after about 5 min the screen just freezes. There's nothing wrong with the websites themselves, as I can access them with no problem through another dial-up. I have emptied the cache but made no difference. Anyone has idea what's going on? Is it Pipex problem or is...

BT Yahoo - just got 2Mb/s by narcissu
Line was playing up (stalling for some time) then got disconnected from BT - this happens several times a month anyway. Re-booted and re-connected - now 2Mb/s Mill Hill exchange (london) Ah well, I will enjoy it for a month or two - until the cap comes in.

Virgin ADSL / BT Voyager 2000 - Anyone using this setup, help please by DeeBee
Further to my posts of yesterday, is anyone out there connecting to Virgin ADSL using a BT Voyager 2000 Wireless Modem / Router. Trying to get a mate up and running on Virgin, but he is on a tight budget, so got a s/h voyager off eBay for him. Tried it on his Virgin ADSL line - no connection.

NTL Freedom down since Friday 25th Feb by J.
My ADSL has been down since last Friday 28th Feb. I've called NTL on their premium rate number loads of times to complain but it's still down. When I use the Frog I get both solid green lights with an error message cannot connect to server. If I use the Linksys ADSL I get one solid green light and one red light with an error cannot connect to PPPoa server (or something like that) Anyone got any...

Is somebody blocking my wifi? by LJM
I've had a wireless access point since I got my Centrino notebook fifteen months ago. The seperate 4 Port ADSL Router and 3Com WAP units were replaced six weeks ago with a single device from Maplin (4 Port Wireless ADSL Router!). If anything the signal was better than before, not that it was bad before. Then this morning, my notebook wouldn't detect the access point. I troubleshooted by...

mail problems on ADSL connection by iain robinson
I'm having problems with email for a friend I'm helping. He has a broadband account at home that doesn't come with any email. I have set him up with first a Wanadoo account and then a BT Internet account but none seem to be able to send emails using his broadband connection (although both will receive mails okay). I know that some ISPs restrict what mail can be sent using their servers, ie,...

"User Isolation" on Wifi by LJM
I'm just reviewing my wireless security and due to documentation shortcomings, I have no idea what the "User Isolation" (wireless) setting does. Anybody? This option definitely wasn't on my last (3Com) AP. -- Lee J. Moore "Life is short, art is long."

Clara Net Upgrade Woe by fastrack1966@clara.co.uk
As a residential user of Clara 512K broadband I tried to upgrade to 1Mps. 1) Clara no longer have a phone line direct to accounts or to sales. You have to wait in the Support line behind a dozen Monday users who have forgotten their passwords. 2) The increase in monthly fee is from 29.99 to 34.99. That is fine by me but Clara want another "connection charge" of ё50 to perform this upgrade. I...

Wireless Broadband by K
Will the UK ever get a wireless broadband service I wonder. I'm fed up having to pay extrotionate rates to use hot-spots when I am not at home. They are claiming that the next generation of 3G-type kit will be capable of fast broadband speeds, but knowing the telcom providers they will rip us off for access.

Skype problems with routers and NAT by Derrick Fawsitt
A friend I particularly want to install Skpe has stopped installing it until he resolves a particular problem. An article in a UK PC Magazine dealing with Skype and how to install it, (was it PC World), said that you can have trouble with Skype and NAT if you have a router. He has a DLINK D1 614plus and he is afraid installing Skype might disrupt his business through his DLINK router. He has...

ADSL does not work, help! by Michael Rodgers
Hi all, So, I'm happily browsing the web. Go off to watch a TV programme about Ebay at 7pm. Return at 7.30pm to find I cannot actually access the internet. Well, sort of. It's quite random. I can, 75% of the time, ping things. Ping the BBC website, get a nice reply with an average of 16ms. Type www.bbc.co.uk or whatever into the browser, and nothing. Web site found, waiting for reply......

Help With BiTTorrent by albop
Colin Wilson Wrote: i only seem to get around 25 kbs download It all depends on the other seeds / feeds - popular torrents with lot of both with likely give you a lightning download speed, although some clients now allow users to restrict their upload speed to other users. Once everyone does that, the torrent might as well be dead :-}

Norton Internet Security 2005 Bye Bye by JC
Let me first state that I have been a long-term user of NIS..back to the days when the firewall was another company completely (sorry..can't remember the name) and have used NIS 2003, 2004 and 2005. NIS 2005 was the first one to cause me real problems. It consistently logged me out of MSN Messenger no matter what settings I tried, but one of my biggest headaches was that ccapp.exe frequently...
