| | Should I be able to get faster than 512kb? by
Sean Black
According to my router my attenuation is 48.5, according to the Pipex
website and also the BT broadband checker my line only supports 512kb,
is this right? I thought the limits were higher now.
With the new pricing announced by Pipex, if I can't get at least 1mb
then I may as well switch to a cheaper ISP, as there seems to be no
indication that Pipex will drop the price for anyone that can't...

Graham
The whole point about using a filtered faceplate is that you do not require
any other filters.
The only thing that puzzles me is how you ever got an ADSL signal from the
POTS socket of the faceplate in the first place.
So connect your modem to the RJ45 (lefthand socket)
And all your phones to the BT socket (or Krone them to the back of the
faceplate) and forget about additional filters.

Richard Stoneman
I recently upgraded our business account from Telewest to a "fixed"
IP.
However, it has become apparant that the IP still comes from a dynamic
IP block. Telewest say that they only offer truely static IP's to
leased line customers...how many small/medium sized businesses can
afford a leased line?!
I am running an exchange server but having a few problems with SPAM

| | Wanadoo: problems with modem - tied into 12 month contract? by
A
Hi
I'm currently experiencing problems with Wanadoo's Speedtouch 330 modem.
The lights appeared on the first installation but the modem no longer lights
up. This is despite un-installing and re-installing numerous times, trying
different USB ports, downloading a free fix patch (REFFIUP04940100 -
apparently solves the problem on Packard Bell PCs, but mine is a Mesh PC
with Win XP) - all on the...

| | BT Schedule for exchange upgrade. by
Andrew Welham
Dear all
I am currently with Pipex, as many of you know Pipex recently offered to
doubled the speed of their customers connection (if your line can take
it) for free. The question is when?
I have phoned Pipex who said they don’t know it’s down to BT !!
My questions are what are the upgrades required?

Ste Kearney
These dudes who download 150gb+ a mo, and keep on doing it. I wonder
what there is left to download and what they do with the data?
I'm not criticising, just wondering!
I only got BB in Nov last year, after years of dreaming of it. Of
course, I went download bonkers in the first six weeks. Downloaded any
old ****e as long as it was big. Even then, on a 2mb pipe I only did
75gb.

Before you order broadband is there any way (perhaps a utility) to check
what the attenuation, SNR, etc is on a phone line? and if so how?
Also can someone recommend a site that lists the values of the SNR etc to
give an idea of the maximum speed that can be had on a particular line.
A friend wants broadband and while broadband checkers say he should be able
to have upto 2meg, he would like to...

matthew
Hi,
I'm on a wireless 1mb SDSL, which is affected by contention. This
isn't a problem, but I'd like to be able to monitor it.
Can anyone recommend a speed tester that will sit on a server
(win/linux) and just check the connection every hour, and log the
results?
Many thanks,

I got one of these from Scan, and have used the latest drivers
Followed this page

and I am synched OK.
The icon in the system tray is correctly showing downstream 2MB,
upstream 256 and I am with freedom2surf. However when I click on the
connect icon, I get a BSOD. It could either be after success/fail to
check password, but it certainly wasn't happening...
