Sky BB, first day report by eadg
Well, well, no nasty surprises. The connection I had with Tesco went dead at noon, I plugged the Sky router in and had a connection 10 minutes later. Had to delete and create my email account in OE once or twice but it's working fine now. No news server but I have a PAYG account with astranews so had to use them for usenet purposes. Other than those minor gripes it's a big improvement on...

Looking for a new ISP (Not demon!) by Fergus McMenemie
I have been with demon for over 12 years and all-in-all from the technical point of view they have been more than adequate. However my recent treatment that the hands of the their un-support line and the debt collection agency they hired to hound me has finally forced me to make the jump. I am trying to be "in dispute" with them but they totally ignore me! I cannot do business with Demon. I...

NO2ID - It's more than a card, it changes the nature of citizenship in Britain by Ivor Jones
"Chris White" wrote in message : : www.NO2ID.net : : : : More than a card - a new way of life While I agree entirely, it has nothing to do with VoIP so has no place here. There are newsgroups specifically for this kind of debate. Ivor

"say no to phorm" government petition by Mike Scott
Someone suggested posting this in u.t.b. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/ispphorm/ There's a real anger in the private vm newgroups about the planned web monitoring system. (Apologies if the petition has been seen here before. Another mention won't hurt though. The more support across ISP users, the sooner this

Migrating broadband to new house - keeping the same phone number by Mortimer
A customer is moving house to another house on the same exchange (not just the same dialling code). He wants to migrate his broadband service (with Demon) to the new house. However he is arranging with BT to transfer the phone number as well, which complicates matters slightly. How should he manage this? Presumably he needs to tell BT (phone line) and Demon (broadband service) that he is...

Post Office Broadband by David
Hi, Hope this is correct NG. I'm fed up with BT from whom I get my 'phone, it is their customer service that as upset me. They speak with strong Indian accents and very hard to understand. I have a charging issue with them they do not seem to know answers to my questions, e-mails take days to answer. So many different packages my head spins. Now I have the Post Office with its single...

Time/method to refund VirginMedia tech support Premium Rate call charges? by Steve
When VirginMedia refunds these charges (e.g. for new cable modem MAC registration) is it shown as a credit on the bill and if so, how long does it take to make it onto a bill? I don't have a VM phone line, just broadband. TIA

Usenet provided with ISPs by Noon
I know that Virgin provide binary Usenet and I've read that BT include giganews (though I haven't found where on their site they say that). How about Be (soon to be O2 it seems), PlusNet, Tiscali etc? It's something that would affect my decision if I wanted to change from Virgin cable. Thanks

BT contract up soon. by 984778548754@hotmail.com.uk
My BT minimum contract is due to expire soon. I was reminded of this by receiving two sales calls offering me a ฃ4 a month reduction if I resigned with them. If I don't cancel at the end of the minimum contract is another 1 year contract imposed immediately of can I cancel, say 2 or 3 months after the minimum contract expires?

IDNet vs ADSL24 by Nigel Cliffe
I am considering an ISP swap - Demon are messing up their billing again. My priorities are low hassle, high availability, decent support. Happy to pay £25-30/month for quality service. I don't have a full picture of our usage (no stats from Demon or our router), but have a reasonable idea; a 30Gb package should be enough. On past recommendations, I'm looking at ADSL24 and IDNet. Headline...

Non-landline (mobile?) broadband by Allan Gould
Friend currently working (including board) for voluntary organisation where they are not permitted to use the in-house landlines for internet. She has a laptop and wants internet access for e-mail, surfing and Skype. Any suggestions for best way to do this (budget is not high). She is currently in the Lake District (Grasmere). I'm suspecting a mobile (which she doesn't have yet) with...
