| | Faffing about by
David Quinton
Tomorrow's the day that we do (or do not) get Broadband.
It's Demon Business 1000 and apparently we're at the stage where a BT
engineer does something at the exchange to test, and then if OK to
enable ADSL. If not OK, then they contact Demono who will e-mail us.
In order for the test to be passed, does it make any difference what I
have plugged in to the socket?
Am I better off with:

| | 2mb upgade when failed originally - any point? by
Steve
Quite happy really, after reading the woes of others here I maybe
shoudn't be asking this, but...
I applied for 2mb line via Metronet, and it came back as failed, line
quality not good enough for 2mb.
We tried 1mb and no problems, activated quickly and very happy, no
disconnects to speak of, recommend Metronet to anybody.
So I'm wondering if there is any point in requesting a 2mb upgrade...

Lakeuk
yes thats the modem I've got, some of the supplied drivers have the
wrong phonebook.ini file included on the cd :-
in section you should have following:-
VpiVci_VPI=0
VpiVci_VCI=38
which since yours worked I expect will be correct, but my
phonebook.ini on the cd had the following settings:-
VpiVci_VPI=1

By Tim Richardson

| | Static IP Setup by
evangelical_bob
I am currently with Eclipse Internet and am thinking about changing
from a dynamic IP to a static IP. I spoke to Customer Services and
they said I will not have to change my router setup as all the changes
are done at their (WAN) end.
I want to get a static IP so I can setup a Half-Life server, use
webcamXP etc.
Eclipse do not charge for the provision of a static IP whereas most
other ISP's seem...

| | Best BT deal options for broadband-only users? by
Ian Rawlings
Hello peeps, given that many people on this group will be using
broadband hired via a non-BT company and hardly using their actual
telephone lines to make calls, what do you all find to be the cheapest
BT line options to put in place? I see from other postings that many
BT options aren't available if you have broadband, so what have you
found to work and to reduce costs?
Thanks for any...

| | DABS PCI Conexant ADSL modem not showing up by
Chris
I've just replaced my hard drive, in the processing upgrading from Win
98 to XP.
Under the old system, I've been happily using a DABS PCI Conexant ADSL
modem. Prior to the switchover, I'd taken the precaution of
downloading the latest XP driver (from themad-house.co.uk) ready to
install on the new system.
However XP hasn't demanded drivers for the modem, and I'm not familiar
enough with the...

Hi there,
I have read a few posts above this and searched the net and I can't
get my old dial up connection to work after getting bt broadband.
I have tried plugging in 56k intel modem into microfilter , where

seems to be dialing up but now I get (error 678:...

I have tried to set up the router with two laptops. The one with the

I have tried so many things to get it working - I am dizzy.
Any ideas would be most welcome.

| | How long an outage to switch from Freeserve to Bulldog? by
Fred Finisterre
Didn't a lot of ISPs agree a scheme a couple of months back whereby there
was some fast hand-over method when a customer wants to change BB ISP?
I'm looking to get the Bulldog 4Mb service, but can't face being without
broadband for weeks.
Cheers,
Fred.

In a case of dissatisfaction with an ISP, do they have to release your
line or can you just sign up with another. I am ignoring for the sake of
this any payment that might have to be paid to end the contract.

| | Option 4 Exchange by
smallholder
My local Exchange(Bratton) has just been upgraded for Broadband - as
Tesco is my current ISP I would like to upgrade with them. Their
website says broadband is unavailable in my area. I asked if this was
just a mistake - their reply was ' Tesco Broadband is on an option 3
exchange, most other broadband providers are on option 4'.
Does anyone know what this means???
