Hi all,
I have just got up and running with Demon broadband, connection etc all fine
but, if I leave the pc for a minuite or so say to answer the phone, when I
return the connectioin has dropped and I have to connect via the connect
icon on my desktop.
Is there something in a menu somewhere that I have to check to stop this
happening, my understanding is that once connected with broadband you...

| | Broadband monitor recommendation please. by
Phil
Whil on dial-up I used the excelent DUN monitor.
Is there something similar for broadband. I have done a Google search
and most of the broadband monitors are all singing all dancing
sophisticated packages costing megabucks.
The main features I want is a graph and daily upload and download
volumes.
Advice please.

| | Anyone heard of SUPtel? by
Me
They've been digging up the road here. Just wondering what it could be
for. Sounds like a telecoms company although the name might be
misleading I guess.
Hoping BT have contracted them to do the installation work for BB here.

Franklin P Patchey
I took out PlusNet's 512K (uncapped) service in January 2003 and including
the (12 months spread) cost of the modem the monthly fee has been £24.99.
The information on PlusNet's website at the time stated that after 1 year
the monthly fee would reduce to £18.99 (or therabouts; I can't remember the
exact figure - because the connection and modem cost would be paid for).
They now say this...

| | Bulldog expand LLU coverage by
Sunil Sood
Bulldog have quietly updated the number of exchanges at which they offer
their 4MB LLU for £40 service (including BT line rental)
This takes them up to just over 60 LLU exchanges (from about 35 previously)
in total - out of the 2/300 they/Cable and Wireless have announced they will
do nationwide by the end of next year
All of the first wave of new exchanges appear to be in and about...

| | CAT5 cabling query by
Jethro
Hi all,
we're having Telewest BB fitted next week. I imagine they will put the box
on the wall where the TV & Phone points are. Unfortunately the PC is two
rooms away.
To be neat and tidy I want to have two RJ45 (is it) boxes one each wall.
I'll run the cable (about 15m) over the loft.
Having never done this sort of thing before (phones yes, networks no) will I

Any recommendations? I want to use in conjunction with Outlook.
I tried GMAIL, but it doesn't let you change the from address, and I want to
change this so that it looks like email is coming from my domain.
Cheers.

| | Managing Bandwidth by
JF
I have a 750k connection with NTL. I use grabit for downloading quite a lot
of binaries, but find that takes all available bandwidth. I like to listen
to online radio and surf the web at the same time. Is there a program that
lets you allocate percentages of bandwidth to specific progs. for example
50k to grabit, 10k for radio and the remainder for surfing.
TIA

Cheddar
My super fast 2Mb connection is currently chugging along at 12Kbs.
Here's some nice quotes from the Plusnet signup page:
"2MB - 40x faster:
The best broadband experience lets you do everything online at amazing
speeds."
"2Mb - 40x faster - Download a 5MB file in less than 30 seconds"

| | BT Yahoo Broadband by
Helen
I have been with BT Broadband (1MB) since last December and initially had no
problems.
About four or five months ago I began to have trouble getting a connection.
It would get to the "verifying username and password" stage, pause for ages,
then eventually display "unable to establish a connection". I have to
repeatedly re-try before I eventually get connected. I would estimate that
this is now...

My Clarity RJ45 extension socket bears a label marked 568B showing the
layout for cable attachment, but to confuse matters there is enclosed in
the packing a similar label marked 568A with a different layout. Could
use socket as-is, i.e 568B, I guess, but I'd like to get it right first
time. Enough other things to go wrong - new broadband connection.
Not clear to me from Clarity web site on...

Do modem routers tell you what your transfer rate is when you are
downloading a file for example, i know that obviously the web
browsers do, but what about routers? just out of interest.

| | What sort of line problem? by
Gareth
I've been having intermittent problems with loss of synch for quite a few
weeks.
BT fixed a line fault - corroded terminal connection in an outside line
box - a few weeks ago. This improved the problem but I still get loss of
synch. The engineer told me that the defunct line box wasn't in good shape
but his repair removed the diagnosed line problem from the line test report.
The BT line...

My recollection is that radio-amateurs who use 'top band' get a lot of

If I took a medium/short wave radio near an adsl exchange, could I tell
when the adsl had been enabled??

| | Restricting router access by
simon
Hello all,
I have a USR9105 router and Tesco BB. All runs well with no problems.
My son is spending far too much time on the Internet instead of doing
his homework and so I want to restrict access (by password) without
preventing him working on the computer. In other words, in order for him
to get on the Internet, I enter a password to activate the router.
If its not possible to do this, can...
