Stupid questions...... by Dave
A friend living in another part of the country is having probs with BT enabling his broadband. First they said their exchange was not activated for broadband (which obviously from sites like samknows and number checking sites including BTs own it is and has been for a long time). Then they said there was not capcity at the exchange (although the samknows site indicates there is). His exchange...

Zyzel 660H vs Draytek 2600Plus by Stan
Hi, I have what i guess would be described as a SOHO setup. I have a Wireless LAN (using access Point) and 4 PC's. There are only 2 users who significantly use the internet. 90% of our internet traffic is just HTML and email, we don't host a website or email server. If possible i would like the option of VOIP and basic (but useable) Video confrencing for future requirements. Again VPN is not...

Virgin broadband restricted to BT by JohnMB
Hello, Does anyone know why virgin broadband is restricted to BT lines only. (I have NTL cable) Is it technical reasons or contractural between Virgin and BT.

Belkin F5D7630-4A - Can I change MTU & MRU? by Fred Finisterre
Hi, I not in the same location as this modem/router at the moment, but research leads me to think I need to change the MTU and MRU settings to 1400 to get it to work properly with AOL. Can anybody confirm this can be done on this modem/router? I downloaded the manual, but it doesn't mention this. Cheers,

harware reset (return to factory defaults) for Q-tec 584AA? by Paul King
Alex Hunsley wrote: I'm trying to find out how to do a hardware reset of the Q-tec 584AA ADSL router. I've downloaded the manuals in PDF format from the website, but they only seem to refer to doing a factory reset via the router config pages. Given that I've forgotten the router password, that one isn't really going to work for me :/ Since I don't have the unit in front of me...

Phone bill extension and getting line activated by Dunny
I have a hypothetical question regarding getting phone line adsl activated. If someone was to call BT to get an extension on paying their current phone bill (to which bt agreed) and then decided to pay for their line to get activated would bt still go ahead with the activation or would the phone bill have to be paid for first. Thanks dunny.

Home Choice - poor service by Lasitha
Hi, My brother signed-up for Home Choice about 4 days ago. This morning, the service stopped working. He was told the earliest day an Engineer can be sent is Friday (i.e. in 4 days). Needless to say, he is not too happy with their customer service. Given that he only signed-up a few days ago, can he cancel the contract?. There is nothing about a cooling-off period in their T&Cs.

BT Voyager 240 Wired ADSL Router - Any Good? by Bob Fraser
Already have NTL, but just signed up for ADSL with F2S to try it out. Previously had a bad initial experience with ISDN on this telephone line (until BT sent a gaffer round to fix it). So worried about whether the new service will run smoothly enough to be useful. Therefore, I am inclined to buy my equipment from F2S because, if eventually ADSL doesn't work out for me and they have to withdraw...

Converting from Business Highway to Broadband by Jeff
Help please! We're a small business currently using BT's Business Highway and using Freeserve Anytime for internet access . We want to convert to 1mb broadband and the easiest and quickest way to do so would be to sign up with BT. I get the impression though that BT would not be the best choice but I'm not exactly sure why! We are very happy with Freeserve (Wanadoo) and I like the look of...

3COM ADSL Firewall ROuter Config by Stephen Lilly
I am having difficulty in configering a 3CRWE754G72-A, it could be i am misunderstanding how the unit passes the IP addresses....... My ISP has assigned a public IP address, normally the 3Com Router would hide this address from my local LAN...In my case to enable my VPN connection to work, i need this public IP address to be passed through the router and avialable at on of the Ports ???.. Poor Upload Speed by Jeff Allen
Hi, I'm currently with NTLWorld but getting very poor upload speeds. It tends to vary on a daily basis with the speed ranging anything from 4Kbits/s to 50Kbit/s, never more than that. The download speed seems OK, around 700Kbits/s. The connection to the PC is with a USB cable modem. I ran the Tweak Test (http://www.dslreports.com/tools) but that didn't pick up anything. Any ideas what could be...

Demon E-mail Addresses by Gelf
Just got my Home 500 ADSL account activated (7 days, start to finish!), but not too happy with the format of the e-mail addresses. It seems that Demon e-mail addresses have to be "user name @ host name.demon.co.uk". This makes for a very clunky e-mail address, whereas with Clara, you could have "host name @ clara.co.uk" or like the Demon version above. OK, I know you only get one address if you...

virgin broadband by Doug
Hi We are thinking of signing up with virgin broadband. It seems cheap and the contract is done monthly which suits us. As I have several PCs that I would like to use on the internet I would rather buy a router/modem than the virgin starter modem that is only for one pc. Can I use any router/modem though? I am thinking of the netgear dg834 as it has a firewall too, would this be suitable? From...

Sharing AOL 9 via wifi by Fred Finisterre
I'm not at all AOL aware, having avoided it like the plague for 10 years, but I'm troubleshooting a problem for someone just now. They have a Belkin wifi adsl/router dialling into AOL, and the desktop and a laptop requiring access. Does AOL 9 need to be installed on the desktop, since it's now the router that's doing the dial-up? Does AOL 9 need to be installed on the laptop, to allow the...
