Virgin ADSL problems by brisargr
Hi All Since the 22nd, following a telephone line fault, I have been stuck with very very slow download speeds (117kps). I have spent endless hours contacting Virgin Customer Care (now there is a contradiction in terms) to no avail. In fact there technical help was as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. Running BT Speedchecker (many many times) I am told my connection rate is 2464kps, IP...

" Broadband provider Tiscali has confirmed talks over selling its UK business to broadcasting giant BSkyB. Tiscali currently has 1.8 million broadband customers in the UK - making it the fourth largest player - although its market share is believed to have come under recent pressure. The Italian firm said: "Tiscali clarifies that it is currently holding talks with the BSkyB Group plc in...

Question about downstream power output by Stuart Rogers
I have recently aquired a D-Link DSL-2740B router which although is working OK there are a couple of issues I'm trying to sort out. The main one right now is that it always reports the downtream power output as 0.0dBm both on its stats web page and on the output of the adsl command when I telnet into the router. The upstream power is usually shown as about 12.9dBm. Now my question is on an...

D A N G E R ! : Another BT Hidden Charge by Turk182
Watch out BT Internet users. Those masters of disguise BT have washed in with some more billing alterations on the sneak. Emails to BT Interent customers make no mention of the detail, but refer you instead to the website to see what the changes are. Having got to the website, you have to sift through thousands of words to discover that BT have set up an £18 approx charge for CANCELLING your...

Yet more BT 21CN failure by Chris Hills
Trust BT to find so many new ways to break things. http://aaisp.blogspot.com/2008/10/bt-break-some-lines-again.html "Having made sure that was not happening again, we now have a new and interesting way for things to go wrong. This time BT have told us that an exchange is ready and have accepted orders to upgrade lines, but it turns out the exchange is not yet ready. In some cases the...

Recent erratic synch rates by Flyiñg Ñuñ 2°°8 +
Until recently - up to and including Thursday 30/10 my synch rate on morning router boot-up (usually some time between 09-00 and 10-00) has been between 6600 and 6800 kbps. But yesterday morning it was 4348 on Gateway pte-ag1 (Plusnet is my ISP). An immediate router reboot realised 6484 kbps on pte-ag2, at which value it remained 'til 13-20 when it was dropped to 6176 on pcl-ag02. A...

Speedtouch 330 DSL modem connects but then disconnects after a minute or so by Mortimer
I had to reinstall a customer's PC after his C partition got deleted (customer trying to repair an earlier problem?). Having reinstalled his Speedtouch 330 drivers and set up a "dial-up" style DSL connection, I can get a connection at a similiar speed to before the rebuild, but the connection is dropping spontaneously (two-computers icon disappears from system tray) even when data is being...

More BT 21CN failure by Chris Hills
BT claim that their network does not support IPv6 on 21CN, even though the wholesale product they sell is IP version agnostic, and it has been established that there is a known bug affecting some of their equipment. A&A have since found that the problem affects not only IPv6, but IPv4 as well. BT finally closed the ticket today (after closing a previous ticket, presumably so they can claim...

Electronics by swapna
Electronics is the field of manipulating electrical currents and voltages using passive and active components that are connected together to create circuits. Electronic circuits range from a simple load resistor that converts a current to a voltage, to computer central-processing units (CPUs) that can contain more than a million transistors. The following indices and documents provide a...

Should it take 10+days to set up or change broadband by fred
I'm looking for opinions and advice on how to speed up the process of changing or setting up broadband. For years I though I had AOL broadband, when the speed dropped last week I started the long and painfull process of trying to find out what went wrong. The answer it appears is that I never had broad band! Silly me, thinking that if a company sends you software, a modem with their name...

More reasons to shop at Morrison's? by kim
Two Nigerians in the lobby trying to sell me a subscription to Talk Talk. Since I'm already the victim of a botched Carphone Warehouse takeover you can imagine my reply! If anyone thinks I'm making this up and wants to check the facts for themselves, it was the Holyhead Road store in Coventry. (kim)
