| | Wiring a modified BT ADSL faceplate by
db
Well my modified BT ADSL faceplate has finally arrived from clarity,
but I need help to wire it up. I'm ok at the faceplate end, Wires
2,3,4 & 5 are self explanitory. I intend to use the other two wires (1
& 6) to push ADSL around the rest of the house using the A & B
terminals. I have also bought an ADSL plate for the phone socket by
the computer. Here is where I need confirmation. Clarity say...

| | ADSL connection dropping when phone is answered by
Martin J
Hi,
I've had this problem over the last week or so.
No hardware changes. Have swapped line filter to no avail.
I'm with Tiscali and up to this point have had no trouble.
The problem seems to be strangely intermittent.
The only change I can see is that the speed of Tiscali has mysteriously
changed from 576K to 2.2M bps.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Martin J.

| | Router with Wanadoo by
Steve O
Couldn't find it in the FAQ, tech support fairly non-committal.........
Can I use a router with a built in modem on any Wanadoo BB package? Or am I
tied to their crappy USB thing with ICS as the only option?
I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, but my mate already has an account
and wants me (this always happens) to sort it out.
Cheers

Called BT today to cancel my broadband contract as I can get a
connection through work. As usual the operator had to work through their
script, and you might be interested to know that they are now offering
13 months for the price of 12 to retain customers who are calling to
cancel.
Be ready for 30 minutes wait to speak to someone though.
It says something for their customer care that you can...

| | Fax on Plusnet by
Graham Daniels
Hi,
Does anyone know if you can send faxes with Plusnet broadband? I know it's
possible to receive them with their Fax2email service. I used to have Home
Highway and used BT Speedway fax software to send faxes. Anyone know if this
will work with broadband? Am using XP.

Apologies if this type of problem has been posted and already answered
I had a quick scan but couldn't see it.
I signed up with OneTel broadband four months ago and everything
seemed to be going fine, went for the 512 line, they sent me the
Speedtouch 330 USB modem and I was a happy bunny downloading every-
thing I wanted, as much as I wanted.
Then suddenly the line went a bit funny, I switched...

| | PlusNet Buying an ISP by
Justin Johnson
They are defantley buying an ISP, they have basically admitted it.
Does anyone have any idea who it is?
I heard it was a three way race between F2S, Vispa and NDO. Vispa have since
said it is not them and people have been pestering F2S to deny such rumours
and they haven't denied any of them, which is making a lot of freedom2surf
customers very twitchy.

| | firewalls by
Me
Hello
Still trying to grow in understanding - I've seen posts in this group that
say, with broadband you need a software firewall as well as the hardware
firewall built into your modem/router. This seems to be based on the idea
that hardware routers stop incoming assaults, but don't stop outgoing "phone
home" or mailer viruses/trojans from dialling out.
BUT - if there is no dial-up modem...
