Pc takes ages to recognise modem Wanadoo by John
Hi All I have a problem with a friends PC (posted ages ago and that issue was a line fault) The currnt issue , is that when the PC is booted , we double click speedtouch and get a message saying the port is already in use. We keep clicking and eventually after 5 mins or so the modem allows you to connect. We are running Windows 98 and have updated all drivers.

OnSpeed by Ed
I often see OnSpeed advertised in the press as a real alternative to broadband as it uses your existing dial-up connection and ISP. It claims that its software works by compressing data harder, so that information comes through faster. Using this technology, downloads are up to 5 times faster than standard dial-up. Me, I'm already on broadband but would still like any comments or...

Draytek 2900 router exposes its config to the outside by Peter M
On 15 Nov 2004 in uk.telecom.broadband, Peter wrote: The Draytek 2900Gi exposes its login to the outside network, The cheap ones I've used allow for the port to be defined, rather than using common ones such as 80, 81, 8080, etc. Also some allow a fixed IP to be defined as an 'allowed' connection. OK, it might be 'spoofed' but an attacker would presumably not get any return traffic :-) ...

Testing broadband line by David Groom
One of my friends signed up for broadband with AOL three weeks ago. AOL have sent through the USB modem and connection settings, my friend followed the instructions and nothing worked. I went over and the first thing I noted was that although the power light was on the modem the DSL light was not lit, unplugging the modem from both the USB port and the phone line did nothing. I connect though...

Anyone ever receive a modified BT ADSL faceplate from clarity.it? by db
I have ordered a ADSL/NTE5/MOD from this page http://www.clarity.it/telecoms/adsl_bits.htm at www.clarity.it. Clarity seem to be the only people doing a modified faceplate and from reading through various forums and groups I haven't found anyone who actually received one. Can anyone give me hope that my money hasn't disappeared and tell me clarity actually sent them one.

router death: twice! by Steve
My second router is reaching the end of its life! Looking to hear what routers people with heavily loaded ADSL connections use...?? A bit of history: My first ADSL router which I got a couple of years ago, a 3com OCR612, had problems regaining ADSL synchronisation when the connection dropped. Also it crashes reasonably often - maybe every 2-3 days. The next router, which I got about a year and...

Broadband providers advice please by lu
Hello Broadband is finally coming to our area(we are out in the country) next week. We are not in a cable area so can't have ntl which would have been my first choice. I am currently on freeserve dialup. I am considering freeserve or bt really as the others seem more expensive. Freeserve say once I register I need to wait 10 days to get broadband, is this the same for all isp's? Also is the...

zone alarm query by Me
Greetings I have just set up a network between my desktop PC and a laptop but when Zone Alarm (free version) is running on the PC, I can't "see" the laptop. As soon as I disable Zone Alarm, there is the laptop and I can move stuff to-and-fro. Can anyone advise please on whether I can tell Zone Alarm to accept the signal from the laptop - and if so, how? The laptop is just using XPs own firewall...

Should modem be slower on a BB activated line by Dennis Reynolds
In theory my line has been activated for BB but after a month I still haven't connected. I'm slowly going through all the hoops with Wanadoo before they can persuade BT to take a physical look at the line and probably will get there eventually. However, when I connect using my modem I find that the connection speed has dropped off quite badly. I used to connect at 42k (not great I know), but now...

Which Version of Demon by mal
I have tried 3 e-mails to Demon but no reply from Sales as yet so.... I have decided to go for one of the fixed broadband IP options Express Solo or Express Total. http://www.demon.net/adsl/consumer.html The only difference I can find is that the Total package includes a free modem. As I have already a wireless ADSL router and all the other bits, I am trying to find out if there is a benefit for...
