Agamemnon
If I have two computers and two broadband modems (my sisters and mine) and
plug them both into filters connected to the telephone line will they get
damaged ?
When I plug just one modem in it connects to the server automatically as
soon as the computer is switched on (they all do this by default) so what I
want to know is if I plug a second modem into the same line what will
happen.

| | Intranet on BT 2Mb ASDL line slow from other BT BB sites by
Linker3000
Now that the pain of BT's total upgrade cock-up is fading, we are left
with only one issue: speed (!)
Head Office is hosting a Linux server running eGroupware for our
Intranet services. Ever since the upgrade to a 2Mbit service, some of
our other sites have noticed that their access to the Intranet has
slowed dramatically, but not to other general Web sites - these sites
don't use us as an...

| | Wireless: Problems switching networks! by
mark
This is driving me mad........
I have 2 phone lines, 1 router on each, 1 ADSL connection on each(freeserve
& bulldog). I'm using Negear ADSL Routers. 1 x WG834M & 1 x DG824M. So one
network is a G, the other is B. Networks on set on different channels....
My problem comes from trying to switch between the networks. Let's say I've
been on the B(824) network all night, and go to change to G(834)....

| | AOL Broadband with Linksys WAG54G by
Captain Caralho
Can anyone advise of the correct settings ( Encaspulation, VPI/VC etc) to
use AOL ADSL with a Linksys WAG54G, or at least confirm that it's possible?
One of my home users who doesn't qualify for our company to install BT
broadband for them has AOL. We won't let them connect to our VPN without a
router (co.policy, I don't make the rules!). The routers we supply are
Linksys WAG54G.
Can I use...

| | 2 Broadband connections on 1 router by
Neil Cooper
My wife uses BT Yahoo broadband on her work laptop and I use BT Broadband on
my laptop. If we buy a wireless router can we both access the internet at
the same time.
We do not want to share files but we may want to share a printer so any
advice on how to set this up would be appreciated.
Thanks Neil

Seen on another NG
I have broadband but need to use a dial up connection once a month to keep
some of old my
emails live.
In the past I have simply reconnected the dial up modem to the telephone
line, used it for a while and all is well.
Now I have been told that the a broadband activated line MUST not be used

| | Cable Internet versus ADSL by
italianculture@hotmail.com
Hi all,
Just arrived in UK. I wonder whether it is better Cable or ADSL here.
Not being interested in a fixed phone line (I have a mobile and a an
active VOIP service), I was opting for cable Internet, but I heard
horrible things about NTL (my only possibility here).
In case I would opt for ADSL, I also wonder whether I am obliged to pay
the rental fee/monthly, even if I don't what a phone...

| | Non-NAT and Secondary IP config. by
Alex Bailey
I've done this several times with other kit (eg. BT Voyager 200,
LinkSys etc.) but I've got a real problem getting a BT Voyager 240 to
work. Here's the scenario:-
Our ISP has issued 8 IP addresses, and the router is setup for non-NAT
with another firewall device behind that. I believe I should set a
secondary IP address on the router to one of the fixed-IP range and
the primary IP address can be...

| | BT postcode problem by
Eddie
I've recently moved in to a newly-built apartment block - so newly-built
that most websites don't recognise the postcode, and BT had an invalid
postcode recorded for the address.
I'm trying to order a broadband connection via Nildram, but every time
they submit the ADSL connection order to BT, it gets bounced back saying
that the postcode is incorrect.
I've phoned up BT customer services...

I'm confused, in order to benefit from super G wireless products, do they
all need to be the same brand? and if not, how do you know certain products
from one brand are compatiable with ones from another?

| | Is this possible: Connect to home pc via internet then dial out for free calls via home phone? by
ub8y05w02@sneakemail.com
Hi all,
Im wondering if this is possible:
Say have always a pc thats always on and connected to broadband
internet, and you also have a dialup type modem in your pc which is
plugged into your landline phone socket.
What im wondering is if there is some way when you are away from home
to connect to your home PC over the internet and make telephone calls

| | Unbelievable - Wanadoo charging for a service I didn't ask for! by
higgy
We were on Freeserve/Wanadoo AnyTime, over a year ago, before switching to
their broadband service. It seems that after migrating to PlusNet, they've
(Wanadoo) started charging us for AnyTime again. Surely I shouldn't have
expected this? Is there some clause somewhere that AnyTime re-activates as
soon as you quit their BB service?
Dave.

| | Speedtouch 330 by
SimonW
I have Speedtouch 330 ADSL Modem.
When I connect it to the USB port it is a lottery if the leds light up. If
they don't then I just have to keep unplugging and plugging it back in until
it does.
I have tried it on a laptop, two PCs and a self powered hub with the same
results. Is this a common problem with these modems ?

| | ADSL in bursts? by
Vivian Dunn
As a newcomer to ADSL, I've noticed that my connection occasionally seems to
operate in a series of bursts. So, for example, when downloading emails, it
will often appear to pause periodically for a few (or more) seconds and then
continue downloading.
I have found that if during one of these pauses I select a new webpage or
something else that puts a demand on the connection, then the...
