| | AOL's latest dirty trick? by
Meee
Well, I thought things were looking up when AOL got rid of my peak
time speed cap (which they originally imposed without telling me and
denied it when I asked about it).
However, it now seems when I've been downloading for a while, they
break the connection. Unfortunately, it also applies to uploading.
I've been trying all day to upload a file to my Youtube account and
its only 19MB.
Can't...

| | Cheapest broadband provider?? by
John
A couple I know have just seperated and are getting divorced. She moved into
a flat of her own 3 days ago and money is very tight for her so what's her
best option for broadband?
She won't be downloading music/films etc., and really just wants it for
basic websurfing, emails, and Skype to her family and friends. Any ideas as
to who's the cheapest provider for her to use?
Cheers,

| | BT clueless by
Pd
In an article on the BBC today, BT are apparently reluctant to upgrade
the UK's telecomms network:
"The current telecommunications system was never designed to carry data
and many have called for an urgent fibre upgrade.
BT has argued that with costs of up to £15bn to roll out such a network
it needs to be convinced of demand and have assurances from the
government that it will be able to recoup...

| | Used to have 8Mbps, now only have 1Mbps by
Andrew
I am on an "up to 8Mbps" service. I used to get the full 8 Meg and would
connect at 8128kbps. Downloads were easily 600 - 700Kb/sec and I was a happy
bunny.
Then the other day my router refused to train the line and it was down for
several days so I phoned my ISP. They said that there had been some
"essential maintenance" in my area that would have affected my line. It was
supposed to...

| | BT Router - Remote Access by
Geoff Lane
Some work colleagues have a BT Business broadband connection using a
2wire router.
I would like to tweak some settings, probably after asking questions of
this group. I would like to be able to access the router from home so
that I can try or check any advice given.
I've gone through the various configuration pages and cannot find any
settings to allow remote access.

| | Anyone still with Onetel? by
mikes
I'm getting 'advice' from Onetel to move over to TalkTalk. Onetel were taken
over by TalkTalk a couple of years ago. Judging from TalkTalk's reputation I
don't really want to do this.
It seems that Onetel wont ever offer more than their 2 Mb service, even
though other providers (including TakTalk) offer 'up to 8 Mb' from my local
exchange (Cranleigh). LLU seems a long way off.
The Onetel...

| | Tabbing and drop outs? by
Pete L
I have had trouble with my connection either dropping out or just
becoming increasingly slow. When it does this I disconnect the router,
reconnect and normal service returns. I'm with Sky and, basically, I
have given up with them ever solving the problem. They just don't seem
to know why this happens. I suspect that it's a case of too much data
coming down the line and it just becomes too much...

| | Broadband Speed problems by
PatWarne1235
Hello all,
I have just moved home and after many problems I finally got my BT
Broadband service reactivated at the new address.
BT told me to expect a speed of 6 Meg. I didn't really believe this
because I am pretty sure the exchange is not very close by.
However upon connection I am getting a truly abysmal connection -
224kbps downstream and 448kbps upstream - less than 5% of the speed

| | L8NC dead or alive? by
Les Desser
I have seen http://www.netmonitor.org/closing.php about it closing.
However the site still allows registrations and seems to be functional -
except that the graphs are empty!
Is this service live (and I have some sort of problem) or is it dead?
Thanks.

| | Tiscali connection suddenly keeps dropping by
Tom
Hi, I've been with these guys for a while with no problems.
I got a letter from them before Christmas saying I was being upgraded
from 2meg to 8 meg for free.
Ever since then my connection has been a nightmare. Constant drop outs,
massive reconnection times (occasionally within minutes, but most often
it's hours or the next day).
They claim the work is over but the drop outs are just as bad.

| | Do BT know which way is up WRT line speed? by
Dave Saville
When I first upgraded to ADSL Max I got the maximum speed possible.
Last summer it dropped to half and staggered up a bit and now sits at
a BRAS rate of either 5 or 5.5.
Samknows and the BT site say I ought to get 6, so near enough I
suppose.
I have a friend, they were on BT but were only getting 2 - BT said
that was the best they could expect. He recently switched to Tiscali
because of...
