| | Tuscansurf query by
bm
A friend asked me to help him with his Tuscansurf Broadband which is causing
him some grief.
I found that when he was sending email he was using yahoo which is obviously
bundled with his system
But I was amazed to find that he had to give a user name and password in
order to go on line and after that when he opened the yahoo email he had to
give a user name and password again.

| | Web server experience? by
Ron
I would be interested in hearing if anyone is running their own web server
via a home DSL connection, especially if on Virgin Media. I am interested
in trying this for fun, and for the chance to learn more about what's
involved. Although my VM download speed vary wildly, the upload speeds are
more consistent. If you have a website you're hosting in this way maybe
you could share the...

| | Recent Teles skyDSL performance by
Bagatell
I have used Teles skyDSL service with a mobile phone uplink for the
last two years and the service has been patchy but usable with speeds
up 2mb on a nominal 4mb contract. For the last two weeks or so though,
average connection speeds on tcp/ip have been about 75kb on the
giganews test page and about 25kb as reported by Newsleecher.
Any Teles skyDSL users have any comments?

| | Need SPI support in router? by
Steve
How necessary is SPI in reality, for a home router?
I've managed using a router without it until now - is it just a way of
selling me something that I don't need?
Hence what's the threat/risk, if any, to:
- my router h/w?
- my BB service

| | Claranet speeds not what they were :( by
Ian Middleton
Hi all
I've had business broadband at 8M from Claranet for about 10 months and have
always achieved speeds of around 6.4M. Been relatively happy with that as I
am 2Km from the exchange and my office is in the sticks with cabling from a
pole outside the building. However a few weeks ago this noticeably dropped
off and I started doing regular speed tests. I regularly checked the speed...

Virgin Media have agreed to give Phorm access to customers browsing

Customers can opt out of the new system when it is introduced next
month. But they will be encouraged to stay.

| | How does talktalk compare? by
glen
Hi, I know little/nothing about broadband, so after many dialup years
I think it's time to try bb.
How does talktalk compare to other ISP's these days, as most of the
negative postings on various forums seem to be from 2 years ago.
It seems that there are quite a few negative views on which ever ISP
I consider, so I figured tt is cheap and all I require at the moment
is light surfing (no music...

Ron Wilkes
Can I still use 18866 or 18185 on Tiscali Talk? Or are these services
unavailable on this service?
Easy to check... if you are already on Tiscali Talk, dial 18866 or 18185 and
let me know if you can reach the service.
Thanks a lot...

| | RIP privacy - it was good knowing you by
alexd
Just in case anybody out there was still under the misapprehension that
there's any privacy left on the internet, have a look at this:
http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/02/15/business/AD18.php
Surely this kind of stunt isn't even legal? Isn't modifying someone
else's web page before delivering it to the client a breach of the
author's copyright?

| | draytek 2600vg adsl problems by
harknasty@gmail.com
Hi all,
We use the Draytek 2600vg's across 5 sites for their VPN capability.
Untill now they been very solid & reliable, however over the last 2
months we have had 4 fail. They don't detect a DSL connection.
Switching the routers to any other type tests OK. We have tried
firmware upgrade, factory resets, resetting and manually retyping in
the config in case it got corrupted etc... with no luck....

| | Interleaving - does it increase line speed? by
WCZ
I can't seem to find a definate answer to this question. At the moment
interleaving is set to auto and I can't see from my router if its on or off.
If I were to force it to be on, would that offer any increase in sync speed?
Clearly I could just try it but it takes 48 hours for any change to take
effect so I thought I'd ask here first.
Cheers.
WCZ.

| | Tiscali outage by
reverse-ekralc_j@talk21.com.invalid
A friend has had problems since Monday where she got messages about "unable
to connect to the server" when trying to access the internet. She went
through the Tiscali uninstall/re-install procedure (several times) to no
avail.
Now she has 2 green lights on the speedtouch 330 but still gets the error
message. Is this likely to be due to the outage messages on the service
status page or could it be...

| | Virgin Media - in trouble again by
Gonz
Why is Virgin Media asking customers for their passwords?
Because either it is stupid, or thinks its customers are.
All they need now is someone to say that fibre optic is killin the
planet, and that'll be it.
They've had nothing but bad luck since NTL started runnin the place.
