| | Sky anyone? Leaving Poopex/Trashcali by
Barb
Hi again, see previous post re Weird Timed dropouts, and several others re
problems with Pipex / Tiscali. My dropouts are still going on six days
later, and I finally received a standard email from Pipex:
""Due to technical upgrades that the company is employing to better serve
our customers per area we regret to inform you that some services might be
affected by these instances. We...

| | Still suffering from drop outs! by
Kevin Cole
Hi all,
I have just read on the net that if my SNR margin falls below 10 itis
possible that my connection will lose synch.
As it's been dropping out a lot lately I have checked my router and have a
SNR margin of 6 and no steady adsl light on the router it's constantly
flashing.
Is this a line fault then because of exchange distance? I would test the

| | Zen Half Speed Update and need help!! Please. by
Ken
My post last week was "I am normally very stable at 2mb but for weeks now it
has been just under 1mb?"
After getting some tips from you guys I called Zen, who were very good, who
said I had to try everything my side of the BT master plate before they
could blame BT's side. So changed filter, tried friends spare (almost
unused) router, factory re-set my router, ran full virus and spyware...

| | Virgin broadband - where do the fibre optic cables stop?! None in myhouse! by
jonathansbackup@googlemail.com
I've just moved to Virgin Broadband having previously has ADSL down my
BT line.
I've seen the adverts from Virgin talking about their fibre optic
network and it set me wondering where the fibre optic cables actually
stop. Do they go to that box in the street near my house or what?
They certainly don't come into my house as that's a bit of copper.
Surely BT's network has lots of fibre optic...

| | Tiscali suddenly slow by
PeterC
Has anyone noticed that Homecall-Pipex (now Tiscali) suddenly slowed down
last week?
I was getting about 1.5Mb about 98% of connections then suddenly it's gone
to 512-570kb every time (well, 800k last night).
The Tiscali forum seems to have lots of threads about all customers being
swung over to Tiscali's gear, but I've seen nothing in this group (perhaps
no-one likes to admit being with T).

| | Very weird timed dropouts on Pipex? by
Barb
Hi, I'm on Pipex Xtreme, and have been for years, because I've always been
fine with them. Good signal and speeds.
Three days ago it started to drop out on a regular pattern, 4 mins on 1 min
off. I've checked the diagnostics on the router (as far as I can) and
upgraded the firmware - working fine - I've removed everything else from the
line, switched filters around and checked the phone...

| | Strange spam filtering issue - help please by
Peter
I have for a long time had a problem with emails to certain people
going missing, or ending up in their Spam folders.
I suspect that somehow the IP of my SMTP server (which is a PC running
on a fixed IP on a business account from Eclipse) is getting
blacklisted.
However, none of the various IP blacklists (mentioned here and
elsewhere) have ever shown that IP as being blacklisted.

| | Broadband fault by
iang
I had a 'regrade' by Tiscali at the end of Jan and basically had no
phone nor BB for over 3 weeks until I moved to BT and everything works
fine now. However, Tiscali claim that all that time there was BB
activity but for most of that period I had disconnected all my kit
except one filter and one phone for testing purposes.
So it seems to me the line fault was probably at the exchange (as
nothing...

| | Router - Ethernet WAN side by
Dave Saville
Can anyone recommend a router that has plain ol' ethernet on the WAN
port? WIFI would be a bonus. I have had a Google around and can only
find a) things no longer available or b) have some dire user reviews.
I initially thought that any "cable" router would do, but after
downloading a few manuals it is not at all clear if they will work
with just ethernet WAN side and no authentication at...

| | Sky broadband mid package problems by
James
Well been on the mid package for a month now and no problems, although I
notice speeds and be limited in the peak hours so download drag a bit. But
no real problems except using the sagem box which I guess is causing the
problems that it occasionally asks me for a user name and password while I'm
surfing but bear in mind I'm not on a password protected site just searching
in google and on...

eastender
I'm trying to get my wife's laptop to work with her work VPN at home.
The VPN is a Cisco UPN IPSEC protocol. So far not able to connect
through a Netgear RP614 wired router connected to cable modem and then
to Virgin (ex Blueyonder).
However, in my office it works fine connected to BT ADSL via a Netgear
DG834G modem/router - didn't need to change any settings.
Her IT helpdesk suggested looking...

A friend asked me to help him with his Tuscansurf Broadband which is causing
him some grief.
I found that when he was sending email he was using yahoo which is obviously
bundled with his system
But I was amazed to find that he had to give a user name and password in
order to go on line and after that when he opened the yahoo email he had to
give a user name and password again.

| | Web server experience? by
Ron
I would be interested in hearing if anyone is running their own web server
via a home DSL connection, especially if on Virgin Media. I am interested
in trying this for fun, and for the chance to learn more about what's
involved. Although my VM download speed vary wildly, the upload speeds are
more consistent. If you have a website you're hosting in this way maybe
you could share the...
