| | Buffalo wbr g54 - Connection Problems by
Doc
Hi,
I am using WBR G54 to connect to Internet. The Buffalo Airstation is
connected to my Desktop PC (Dell - Windows XP home) thru cable and I
am able to access the Internet using my ISP NTL Broadband (600kbps).
The problem I have is when I try to access internet using my laptop
(Sony - Centrino 1.6 - XP Professional) using the Airstation, I am not
able to access the Internet. The WIRELESS LED on...

Hi there,
I'm living with 3 other students and we'd like to set up a network in our
house so that we can all share the same broadband connection. Knowing
nothing about networking, I have no idea where to start looking for
information, so wonder whether you could help?
- what hardware do we need to buy to share a broadband connection between 4
computers (3x laptops, 1x desktop)?
- how much will...

| | DLink DSL-G604T NAT+Static configuration by
Habu
I'm trying to configure the new DLink DSL-G604T router to enable both
static and NAT routing. So far all I've accomplished is totally
blocking all my services so I feel it's time to shout for help!
Scenario:
I have a static IP subnet of eight addresses.
Eg: 82.1.1.1 - 82.1.1.8 (255.255.255.248).
The router sits on 82.1.1.2 which leaves me with five usable addresses.
Four of these I want to...

So am i right in thinking if i buy an ADSL Router that i can bin my USB
Speedtouch 330 modem alltogether and the router connects to the
microfilter? And then i connect my two machines into the RJ45 ports on
the router with normal network cables?
If this is so, how does the connection work? Is the username and
password for One.Tel stored on the router or do I need to install some
software on the...

I am currently using 512K broadband as this is the only speed I can get due
to my distance from my exchange. I have just been contacted by my ISP and
informed that due to BT changing their broadband distance limits on 6th
September, I may qualify for 1mbps.
I'm assuming I'm over 3.5km from the exchange at the moment and I'm hoping
that I am within 6km to qualify for 1mpbs after 6th...

| | what SNR/SNR Margin at 0.5Mbps for reliable operation at 1 Mbps by
robert w hall
OK, Now we've got the topic of what we mean by SNR and SNR margin well
staked out in its coffin...
Now to the question I really wanted to ask :-)
I have a 512kbps system working reliably at a downstream attenuation of
say 55 to 65 db.
What SNR/SNR Margin do I need to be seeing at 512kps to make it
worthwhile trying to upgrade to 1Mbps...? (see notes)

| | Interference by
Reg Edwards
We've heard about interference by Internet services to radio reception.
How about interference by high power broadcasters and nearby amateur radio
stations to Internet services?
It comes under the heading of bad signal-to-noise ratio. How do you know
when you are suffering from it?

| | Pipex to PlusNet by
NoSpam
Are there any downsides moving from Pipex to PlusNet?
Does PlusNet have an 0845 number for dialup access if you are away from
home?
Does PlusNet have customers services at least as good as Pipex?
Are there any downsides to PlusNet compared to Pipex?

Does this mean I'd have to upgrade to a router? Doesn't that negate the

Hi there,
I've got a second phone line, as some of you might have read in my last
post, BT have disconnected my service, I told them I no longer wish to have

I'm looking for another Broadband to go on my other BT line, and I don't
want to pay any kind of set-up fees like demon and some others do..
Has anyone got any ideas?

Joy
I have just migrated from Dial Up to BT Yahoo broadband. I am using Windows
Explorer and MS Win XP.
When I try to save a web page (File, Save As) to my desktop it seems to save
it as a notepad file, not a HTML document. Also the Notepad looks like an
exe file.
Can anyone help as to what this is and why its doing it.

Phil
Just moved to Broadband - using a Netgear DB834 on a fairly new PC
with built-in Ethernet (Realtek RTL8169/8110 Ethernet NIC) running Win
XP SP1.
The modem goes into the setup on http\\192.168.0.1 OK but will not
connect to the internet. Going through the M/Soft Newtork Wizard
wouldn't create a connection either because it only offers PPPoE.
PPPoA is not available. The Netgear setup is set to...

I connect to the Internet using Wanadoo broadband and send mail using the
Wanadoo SMTP server, but have my own domain, hosted by freeparking.co.uk,
who automatically forward email addressed to that domain to my Wanadoo
account. My normal practice when sending emails is to blind copy them to my
own domain, for filing purposes and as a sort of check that they've been
sent properly.
