| | Trying to contact Plusnet by
Road_Hog
Is it me? This is the second time I have tried to contact PlusNet and find
it very difficult to just click on a contact email link and then send them
an email.
The whole system seems to be geared up to having to jump through hoops to
talk to them, I'm used to seeing a "contact us link" and hitting that to
send an email for whatever purpose. With ClaraNet and FreeUK (on dialup) it
was easy.

| | BT Network problem. by
Peter Crosland
Plus have posted a notice on their site about a major BT network problem at
Reading. What astonishes me is the number of exchanges that BT say may be
affected. Do they really not have enough redundancy in their network to cope
with this?
The Exchange list is

The problem is still evident and BT's ETA has been put back. We will update

Dr Teeth
I wonder if there are any known issues with the Netgear DG 834?
The particular problem that I am having is that after a longish
session of downloading with Limewire (a java P2P client) I cannot use
any internet service that relies on DNS (I have not yet tried to
access sites with the IP address as I need DNS services to get to
sites to look up IP addys).
I can still d/l with Limewire though. I...

| | BT ADSL Upload speed by
Dan Williams
We have a BT ADSL connection at our office with a 2MB download
connection, but unfortunately it only has a 250kbps upload speed
(http://www.btbroadbandoffice.com/broadband/network_2000).
Why is that? Or always thought that the upload speed was always half
the download? We're hosting a web site and need to access Exchange
from our server so need to improve our upload speed.
Any suggestions?

| | Moved premises, moved number, what about ADSL? by
TX2
A business assoc. of mine has just informed me that she is moving to a
new office on Friday, and proudly announced to me that she had arranged
for her existing telephone number to 'move' to the office as well.
I suggested that her ADSL connection wouldn't automatically follow, and
that she may have to 'cease and re-provide' at the new premises.
She seems to be of the opinion that in moving...

| | Pipex Webspace by
Mark Carver
I noticed yesterday that some pages uploaded to my Pipex webspace were inaccessible.
Going in via my ftp client I was amazed to discover that
some pages I'd uploaded a week ago were missing, and others that I'd
superceded were back to their older versions !
Is this nonsense common with Pipex ? (I've only recently
started using my web space)
I see the Network status page at

| | Alcatel PCI 'modem' problems ... help please by
Gunnr
I have an Alactel PCI Modem card connected to my Nildram ISP.
It has run fine since installed 6 months ago, but after I reformatted my
system, I cannot seem to get Windows XP to recognise the modem for the
'dial-up' settings for the PPPoA.
Can anyone help, or suggest a setting that I have missed?
TIA

| | BT to extend adsl... trials by
Beck
Some time ago, BT announced trials to extend the possible distance from exchange
to over 6km. I have been away from this group for a while and wondered if there
was any more news on these trials. Whether they have started, if there have
been results announced? Or even whether the extension has been properly rolled
out?
Thanks.

lesshaste
Hi,
Does anyone know how exactly plus net stop p2p etc. on their cheaper
broadband services (e.g. 18.99 pcm)? I am interested both from the
point of view of intellectual curiousity and because I would like to
know what exactly is failing due to their blocking something and what is
due to my simply having misconfigured something (like rsync for example)
What is slightly odd is that I am...

I have my own proxy server set up on my pc so I can access banned sites from
my college so I'm wondering how difficult it is to setup something similar
on my pc to opera, where the proxy server reduces the file size of the web
page so I can browse quicker on my mobile?
TIA
