| | What's up with plusnet's news group server? by
Hi
I downloaded a couple of news group updates. These groups usually have
150-250 new messages/threads daily, but yesterday and today i'm
getting 10,000 - 15,000 new messages/threads most of which are no
longer available and some, that are only a couple of days old are no
longer there?

I'm from the UK but am going to France for a few months where an ADSL
subscription has been purchased from France Telecom complete with the boxed
hardware waiting for me to unpack and set up and apparently no one

My french is poor so having never used anything other than modem I wonder could
someone give me some clues as to what to expect and possible problems...

| | Will an ADSL Router with an ATMF-25 WAN port work in the UK? by
Graeme
Hi,
I have an ADSL router with an ATMF-25 port on the WAN side and
ethernet ports on the LAN side. I'm guessing it was designed for use
in another country - but is there any way I can get this to work in
the UK? I think that I need some sort of device to transform the ADSL
signals into ATM cells, but I'm not sure. The set-up diagram for the
router shows a "network terminator" box with both an...

| | Wanadoo - big problems registering by
Kooky45
I've been trying to get Wanadoo broadband for four weeks. It took
them three weeks to send my ADSL modem, and although they say it
should only take 10 days after ordering before activation the line
still isn't active. I've called their customer care and technical
support lines many many times, and I've been told three separate times
that my account has been closed and needs reopening. I've had...

| | Pipex FTP and NNTP challenge by
manbo
I've had my Pipex account for a few weeks now. Registered for my DSL
webspace the other day and am having trouble connecting the the dsl
ftp server.
I'm connecting from a Windows 2000 PC behind a D-Link 504 modem
router. The firewall filtering is off on the D-link hardware. I really
can't see anything wrong on my end as I'm able to connect to other FTP
sites. I find it strange that I get...

| | ADSL and my TV Set by
c_web
Hi
my internet connection slows down and drops every 5 minutes if i have
my tv set on.
The tv set is on the other side of the home and does not share any
cables/wires with my computer or adsl. It uses an external antenna.
I made some tests. When i turn off the tv set, adsl connection works
at maximum speed. When i turn it on, adsl slows down and drops in 2/3
minutes.

| | [UK-Bug] News ... Wanadoo spam by
Andy M Jenkins
The net is closing on the Wanadoo spammer
For the past few weeks, BTYahoo subscribers have been subject to both a
severe delay in receiving e-mail, and an even worse amount of one
particular spam e-mail. Today good progress seems to have been made in
resolving the issue.

| | ADSL switching off/on by
RobertJM
Hi,
I've recently put in a new motherboard and now when I'm on the net the ADSL
connection sometimes switches off for a few seconds then back on (same
effect as clicking the 'stop ADS connection' button) ??
There seems to be no pattern as to when it does it, sometimes a few times in
a minute sometimes ok for all the time I'm on ( can't remember if it
switches off when I'm offline).
I'm with...

Could anyone advise me of the best way to check to see if the line has been
upgraded for ADSL, my exchange is due to come on air this Saturday and was

Many thanks,

| | Short term contracts by
Jose L G?mez Dans
Hi,
I have finally decided to install broadband at home. In principle, I
could have either cable or ADSL, and while not biased, I think I'd go
for cable (Telewest), as I then get the telly channels, phone and what
have you. However, there seems to be a clause in all of Telewest's
contracts which states that the minimum contract length is 12 months,
which is 6 months more than I wish to commit to...

| | BT to offer itemised billing for broadband by
Sunil Sood
Consumer broadband bills will be itemised from this summer, offering a
breakdown of not only the amount of time spent online but also the amount of
bandwidth used in individual Web sessions.
As the price war for 512Kbps broadband services escalates, itemised billing
will help ISPs cut their losses by enabling them to put bandwidth caps on
their sub-£20 products and bill for extra capacity.
The...
