| | Help needed choosing ethernet modem! by
Harry
Hi, need urgent help.
Have got a USB adsl modem (binatone) and
although I get a constant connection, I get
very regular freezes and hangs and frequently have
to reboot. Have been told that this is USB - correct?
and have been advised to go for an Ethernet modem/router.
1. Is this is wise move? Am I likely to experience less freezing?
2. Which ones would you recommend out of the following (if...

| | NTL Broadband MAC Address by
Chris Weston
Hi,
Can anybody tell me, because I've checked out the dreadful ntlworld faq and
had no luck, do NTL require registration of MAC address a la Telewest before
one can use their cable modem broadband? My Dad's PC has had to be replaced
and I'd like to know how much configuration of a replacement will be
necessary.
Cheers
Chris Weston

| | ADSL speed problem - comments please by
John Dann
I've got a recurrent download speed problem with my ADSL line that
neither my ISP (Nildram) nor BT seem able to resolve.
The symptoms are that at intervals of a few days, the download speed
becomes unusably low, maybe 1kb/sec, so in practice for example almost
all web pages time out. In between times the speed returns to a good
normal level. There are at least three odd features:
1. I only...

Stuart Carrison
All,
I have just moved house to Witney, in Oxfordshire.
In my previous house, my employer provided me with a seperate line and ADSL
from MainStream Digital. I shared the connection (as I do now) for my home
LAN. I never had any problems with the DLink modem or the line, at one point
it was up constantly for nearly three months.
I've had ADSL from BT in my new house now for 3 days - and already...

| | DLink, bunch of amateurs or what! by
Malcolm Reeves
Hi,
Perhaps someone here will know the solution to my problem since DLink
certainly don't!
I had a DSL-504/UK V1 B with b2t10uk firmware that was working very
reliably. Some of the web interface pages didn't work though so I
though I'd upgrade to the latest firmware to fix this. BIG MISTAKE.
I couldn't get the upgrade to work so I contacted DLink who told me I
needed to load the earlier 18 to...

BT confirms customer exodus
By Tim Richardson
Published Thursday 20th May 2004 10:31 GMT
BT is losing between 50,000 and 100,000 residential customers a month,
the UK's dominant fixed-line telco finally confirmed today. This loss
of customers even takes into account all those punters who return to
the company each month - something BT is keen to brag about in its
ads.

| | Tiscali Sagem drivers ?? by
TX2
A friend of mine has recently had Tiscali 3x broadband activated, but
has gone and lost the installation CD !
Can anyone suggest where i can find a download for this...someone could
perhaps send me the contents of the CD via email, or maybe a temp web
page where i could download the files perhaps?
He hasn't approached Tiscali to see if he can get a replacement just
yet.

Nigel
I am presently waiting for a new BB connection through Pipex.
My exchange RFS date is 26th May.
Can anyone tell me whether I am likely to be connected on that day, or
whether it is likely to be 10-14 days after that?

| | Virgin's Modem by
Chris Pape
Hey all,
Well, I've e-mailed and e-mailed virgin, but to no reply, and I won't use
their Premium Rate number (not after my fiasco with O2 anyway!) so I thought
I'd ask you guys!
With the Virgin starter pack, there is a SpeedTouch USB modem, and I was
wondering if it will still work with BB if its connected through a phone
extension lead, or if it needs to be put into the original socket? I...

| | USB Modems by
Nigel
Why are USB Modems generally considered to be naff?
I realise you can only connect one PC, but if that's all you want to do will
they still provide the same speed?
I wouldn't have thought the USB would be a bottleneck for a 512k connection.
I realise it won't have a firewall, but can live with that by using software
firewall.
Are there any other problems related to USB Modems?
All things...
