OT: Sloooow websites by Tiscali Tim
Is there a booby prize for the slowest website? If so, it must surely go to ParcelFarce's site for tracking parcel delivery? Even with a fast ADSL connection (hence this NG) when trying to track the delivery of my ADSL wireless router (even more relevant!) the site takes FOR EVER to load. It initially sits there with a blank window saying "Done", then graad-u-l-y paints dialogue boxes and...

What is LLU? by Mr Wiffy
Sorry to be a complete ignoramus here, but there is a lot of talk about LLU, and whilst I am not a complete idiot, I am not sure I understand exactly what it is. Can somebody please provide me with a definitive explanation of LLU, as none of the BB sites seem to have a definitive guide? Thank you in advance for your knowledge, and tolerance! Ian

Virgin.net - cancelling woes by Terry Eden
Rang up at the begining of the month to cancel, I asked for written confirmation and/or an email confirmation. The bloke at the end of the line was adamant that he couldn't and wouldn't do either. Having heard about cancelation problems with Virgin, I sent an email to their billing address asking for confirmation that I had been cancelled. The reply I got back stated that they had no record of...

Linksys WAG54G Firmware flash went wrong by Robespierre
Hi I unsuccesfully flashed my WAG54G router to Annex A v1.01.7. Now DHCP wont update my IP address, giving me a 169.254.... address, and thus I cannot connect to the net. I spoke to tech support, and the options I have is to either downgrade the firmware or to RMA it. If anyone has any earlier firmware revision, could you please, please email it to Thanks

Grrrr.... 7 days downtime!??! by mike
Today my phone number was changed, not the line, just the number for reason out of my control. I've been with freeserve for 4 years, I've been with freeserve broadband for 20 months or more. I was unsure whether or not having purely my number changed would affect my broadband connection, well, it did. Today my connection cut out completely at round about the same time the number was changed. I...

dacs removed - not much improvement in dialup speed - line gain/line card by banzai
evening all, bt removed my dacs a week or so ago (i was previously connecting at ~24kbps). i now get about 33kbps but not much more. The device has definitely been removed and things are slightly better but can they be improved with any other config/requests from BT (i've read stuff about changing line gain from auto to 7 -bt can do this apparently as well as changing a line card ?) - any advice...

How long does an ADSL "always-on" connection stay up by Tiscali Tim
ISTR seeing posts a while back suggesting that "always-on" ADSL connections would stay up for weeks at a time. Is this the norm? I have had ADSL (PlusNet) for about 10 days - during which time the connection has been dropped (and automatically re-connected) twice - usually in the middle of the night. I wouldn't mind too much except that each time it has happened, I have been unable to access...

Robot dog unleashes BT's new flagship by Sunil Sood
A ROBOT guard dog of the future was the star of the show as telecoms giant BT unveiled its new Broadband Showcase science centre in Leeds. The new facility is the centrepiece of the company's £20m flagship building in Sovereign Street and was officially opened by Leeds Central MP, Hilary Benn. It has been designed to demonstrate how broadband technology can change the way we live and work. And...

Cheap business ADSL by Alien Zord
wrote in message ... Does anyone know what the cheapest price for business ADSL is? Needs to be installed in an office. It'd be a standard fix BT line not a PABX. Just wires only is ideal, like a residential installation. Here a Pipex Xtreme Home Office 500 feeds a computer company with up to 10 PCs via a Linux based...

Coverage maps by Phil Latio
Anyone do such a thing as a detailed coverage map showing which companies cover which areas. I could be moving to Poole/Bournemouth area (from York where I have NTL cable) and wondering what delights are on offer on the south coast. Cheers Phil
