Allocating bandwidth? by melter
Is there an app (a firewall app, possibly) that you can assign different running tasks a different share of bandwidth. eg, 3 programs A, B and C, where A & B get 40% each and C get 20% Thanks

Help withXP setup to use Solwise SA110 router please by Peter Crosland
I have set the network card address to 192.168.7.2 as per the instructions. If I type this address into my browser it tries to dial out on my ordinary modem. I am sure I am doing something obviously wrong. Please could someone tell me how to get it to look at the network card? TIA -- Regards from Peter Crosland Website www.petercrosland.plus.com

Best place to situate micro-filters by Gareth Edmondson
Hi, I wonder if anyone could give advice on where to place my microfilters. At the present time, my phone line comes into the house through the front, with a single phone socket on the wall. Out of this I have an extension cable which serves my internet connection to the study, which is upstairs. This extension also houses the Sky Digital TV connection (which I can remove).

OT (?) HP Ipaq / PDA / Pcket PC 2003 query by Dave
I know very little about these PDA's. Are you able to browse with IE etc view / listen streaming video / radio etc on the PDA if you are obviously conected wirelessly to your main pc in the same way you can with a laptop ? How do they cope with video playback and broadand feeds with their far smaller amount of RAM and processor power max of 400MHz ? ie I guess playing DVD video is no go ? Are...

Spam filtering by Steven Campbell
My exchange is being enabled in April. So I'm currently trying to figure out a decent supplier to go with. With reliability being the biggest criteria I'm looking for, the next on the list is SPAM filtering. I am currently with Freeserve dial-up and have been for 5 years or so but the amount of SPAM I receive every day now is beyond a joke. I easily get about 60 - 70 per day. It's driving me...

Dynamic vs. Static IP? by PsychicStickleBrick
My exchange goes live in two weeks - Woo! I've just preordered Home ADSL 1Mb from PlusNet - Yey! I'm going to order a Netgear DG834 Modem/Firewall/Router - Hoopla! One question that still vexes me is whether to keep the default dynamic IP address or to enable the Static IP support (at no extra charge)? I have heard that static IPs can be a disadvantage if you suffer from DOS attacks or hackers...

Reply from BT Chief exec re my line failure... by Decal
As I mentioned yesterday, I have had a check carried out on your line and I have since had the results back, however I would like to take this opportunity to explain a few things that may help clear up any confusion. In September/October time of last year, we had been trialling a new system which was used to measure lines to see if they would be able to support ADSL - this was not trialled on...

Hi I have just ordered the 1 Meg upgrade to my standard Pipex home account. I was just wondering if anyon had experience of how long these things normally take to happen? I have seen the estimate on the web site but in my experience with pipex it is usually much shorter time periods than the ones they quote. Thanks AJ
