| | Freeserve Broadband - Time to join? by
yesfan
I have got Freeserve Broadband on thier current no obligation offer -
no setup or modem costs. If I continue after 30 days it will be £27.99
per month and a minimum 12 month contract.
As higher broadband speeds start to arrive, when will the price drop?
I'll be annoyed if I commit to 12 months at £27.99 per month and then
the price drops to something like £19.99!
Advice, please!

| | Anyone using satellite broadband? by
Stuart Turrell
i use AOL and central point.
They are very cheap and with the AOL dial-up, you dont get cut off all the!
I find this setup excellent!
I listen to radio stations off the net in CD quality and it is perfect,
(busy periods do slow a bit!)
I do a lot of brwosing and i find this certainly faster than normal dialup,

I have spent a day playing with the above and found the following

The IPAQ will talk to the WPC PCMCIA card (fitted in a Sony laptop)
but only of both are configured in ad-hoc mode.
The WPC will talk to the WRT router but only if the WPC is configured

| | Belkin wireless network sharing kit by
Bobby
I see that PC World is doing a special offer on the Belkin wireless network
internet sharing kit. It's £60 instead of £120 and comes with wireless DSL
router and wireless notebook network card. I'd post a link to the product on
PC World's website but it's isn't there.
Is the Belkin router any good? It doesn't contain a modem but it's rated at
54mbs and has a (claimed) range of 1800 feet.

| | Vigor 2600 Printing Issue by
David Bradley
Hello,
For this posting I have taken a couple of random IP address so that my
quest for information is easier to explain. So far as I am aware the
IP numbers do not exist.
My Vigor 2600 has a public address IP address of 93.47.162.7 and is
pretty much set up as it came out of the box.
On the LAN there is a printer at fixed IP address 192.168.42.103

| | Netgear DG834 v. DG814 Logs by
Les Desser
My old DG814 used to log every web site accessed and then email it when
the log was full.
My new DG834 that replaced it does not seem to log web access any more.
Am I missing an option somewhere or is this a fact.

| | Alcatel frog and Win XP PRO. Do they work together? by
Mike Barnard
Hi.
A friend has a midrange PC onto which he has just installed XP pro.
He only had a 56k modem tho' and I said I'd connect it to my broadband
in order to download sp1 and whatever updates are available. So, I
tried to install my Alcatel USB modem.
I went to Alcatels site and eventually got the latest drivers,
R2.0.1.2. Installed the original drivers from the CD. Installed the
update. ...

| | Tiscali broadband sound problem help! by
Mark Lawrence
Hi,
Wonder if anyone can help me. I have the Tiscali 3 times faster "broadband"
but am having a problem. The sound on streaming audio is REALLY low volume.
It is fine if I use my old freeserve dial-up. Any ideas?
I have tried calling Tiscali and the helpline has been crap, they say it is
my problem to sort. Until I can call their customer services on Monday I
thought someone here may be able to...

| | Does any ISP provide a combo Wireless Modem, Router, Firewall...? by
Grumpycrab
Hi, Am thinking of going the wireless route for some home PCs.
Is a combo wireless router/modem and firwall a good idea? If so does any ISP
include it in their starting package (looking for approx £24pm).
Or is it better/cheaper to buy a separate modem(ethernet!) and wireless
router.
Thanks!
