Various people offer this, £50/month and above. For people like me in
a village where BT will probably never do it, it's an option.
BT are being suprisingly honest on their website about the limitations
of their satellite offering. They say the long time delay to/from the
satellite causes...

| | BT Broadband and Norton Anti Virus conflict! by
Tony Hodson
I have just installed Broadband at home which works fine. The only problem I
have is that when I try to automatically download the updated virus files
from Norton the PC looks for a dial up connection and as there isn't one
can't complete the transmission.
Just wondered if anyone had experience of this and a work around?
Thanks in advance

| | House-hunting and ADSL by
Cuzman
Let's say that I was to go house-hunting. A nice house that I find may be
in an acceptable postcode area for ADSL, but without a line-test I can't be
100% certain that I could have a 2MB connection. Do BT allow checks on
lines that you don't yet own? I would of course be willing to pay for the
line-test. In choosing future houses, I suppose this is a consideration for
an increasing number of...

Sunil Sood
BT has announced a series of trials to deliver rural broadband internet
access without the need for wires, in a bid to reach its target of 100 per
cent broadband coverage of every UK community by 2005.
BT has set up the trials as part of the company's efforts to deliver
high-speed broadband services to rural and remote communities that cannot
currently gain access to broadband using more...

Im looking into migrating from my current provider (internet central) to
another, can anyone explain the procedure of initiating a migration, i.e
I know I have to get the CBUK number first but do I then pass it onto
the prospective provider and then cancel my current connection straight
away or does the new provider handle that end of things??

| | telewest able to restrict bb access to one computer? by
net
I'm not all that clever with bb but I'm trying to troubleshoot a problem for
a friend who uses telewest broadband, using a Cable modem - Model: Surfboard
SM4100 (I think). This modem connects to a WinXP laptop through RJ45 network
cables. The network cable goes from the laptop LAN port into a small hub,
and then another RJ45 patch cable goes from the hub into the back of the
cable modem and this...

Hi,
I have a netgear FR114W router that I am trying to setup with my NTL cable
connection, however I'm having a little trouble getting it working. I've
setup other routers (like the draytek vigor) with ADSL, but cable seems a
little different. In the setup there was PPPoA, where as this only has PPPoE
or PPTP. It asks me if my connection needs a login, I didn't think it did,
but I seem to...

I hope to become ADSL enabled the end of Jan so am running around in ever
decreasing circles trying to make decisions.
I use the internet for browsing, mail and P2P, not interested in games. I

What is the best hardware to do for:
Modem/Router and Internal/external.
Any help gratefully received.

Hi All,
I have a Pipex connection, DLink DI614+ Wireless Router and 3Com HomeConnect
Dual Link ADSL Modem, and I've now (I think) realised that the combination
doesn't do what I want it to, namely wirelessly share my Pipex broadband
connection around the house without having any specific PC switched on. As
I understand it, the DLink router is the main stumbling block.
I'd like a situation...

My Draytek ADSL Router gives me the option to be always on or to dial as
necessary.
Just practicing I have played around with the settings, it appears that if I
am offline it automatically connects if I use any internet service so I am
wondering what is the advantage or not of having an always on setting, is it
just to safeguard against incoming problems for computers that are left on

| | Draytek 2600 by
Glenn Clark
Hi All
About to order the above router as this support vpn, but looking at the
documentation I noticed it saying about forwarding ports for game playing.
At the moment on my DG814 I don't need to do this as these ports are opened
by the game, does anyone know if this will be the same for the draytek as I
have 2 pc's running medal of honour.
Thanks

I have a Netgear DG814 router/modem, 3com 10/100 NIC card in the desktop and
a Netgear WG602 WAP.
I have recently upgraded to a 1 mb link with my ISP. The speeds i Achieve
are the old .5mb. I have checked with my ISp and BT who say everything is in
order. It seemed to be the DG814, so I swapped for a new one, same problem.
This is mystifying as when I put my old alcatel speedtouch modem in I...
