ADSL Max target SNR oddities by John Livingston
Could someone try this and confirm what I have been seeing ? Normal target SNR on resync - 10dB (has been for ages). Stable line - resyncs once or twice a week. Speeds around 2.5-2.8Mb OK - here we go. Switch off router for a couple of minutes. Switch on again. Resyncs at target SNR of 14dB(!!). This is consistent - not a one-off. Speed is of course WAY down. If I don't intervene, it will stay...

Cancelling Demon Contract by CJB
I subscribe to Demon Home 8000 broadband via BT landline. The service is OK except I never got their email service to work, nor access to newsgroups, nor the 8mb promised. I usually pay annually upon receipt of an advance reminder invoice or email. However this year I received nothing and Demon have now suddenly terminated my account and broadband service. I suspect that this is deliberate...

Help needed with Netgear and BT Home hub by Colin Sandall
I am trying to connect my pc wirelessly with my bt home hub to free up one of the ethernet connections to use a video phone. I am using a Netgear WG111v2 wireless adaptor. The adaptor seems to work - has found 3 networks including mine and the signal strength is very good, but I can't use the internet. Oddly, I can if I use one of the other networks in the vicinity - I only know this because...

OT: Mailwasher error message by Terry Pinnell
I've been getting this intermittent error message for a week or so now and wonder if anyone in either of these two groups can suggest a likely cause and practical fix please? When I run MailWasher I often get: "The connection to the incoming server was reset, check your internet connection." If I close the error window and use Check Mail again, usually it's OK, or might take one more attempt....

Line dropping out after 10-15 seconds by steve41@totalise.co.uk
I changed to Be Unlimited on Friday, but the line only stays connected for about 10 - 15 seconds before dropping out. The events log for the "Be Box" router shows the "xDSL linestate" yo- yoing between being up and down, and when it's up the stats a "xDSL linestate up (ITU-T G.992.5; downstream: 16061 kbit/s, upstream: 1010 kbit/s; output Power Down: 18.5 dBm, Up: 12.0 dBm; line Attenuation...

BB Connection That Keeps Dropping Out by Jeff Gaines
My neighbour had BB installed recently via Plus.NET and I helped her install the wireless router and get up and running. The BB connection keeps dropping out and re-connecting and it is beginning to annoy her. I suspect it's an extension wiring issue, her setup is: Old style BT main connection box (i.e. not NTE5). One live extension run from inside the box and possibly one unused...

Can I have just a broadband service (without the telephone service)? How much will...

Sending mail with the Post Office ISP by Ray
A friend of mine's just had broadband installed by The Post Office and I've been trying to set up his email. It seems that the P.O. is blocking outgoing emails that don't use @mypostoffice.co.uk domains and also blocking any attempt to use other outgoing smtp servers, resulting in him being unable to use his own domain name. Is anyone aware of a way around this? TIA
