| | Any people with unexplained disconnections? by
Clueless
Hi
As noted in my prev posts I have had episodes of unexplained disconnections
on my 2 MB Datastream ADSL service on Nildram. I found after extensive
troubleshooting and virtually no useful help from BT that my login attempts
are getting as far as the Radius server for my ISP but then drop
immediately, so much so that they do not register on the logs. I can connect
to the Test user login on BT...

| | I'm being stupid (linux) by
Ian Stirling
I'm sure there is something really simple I've missed.
I have a origo asr-8100 ethernet modem/router.
(I am aware of the security problem with this router, and have
fixed it)
It's currently working fine as a gateway.
I'd like to turn on "ppp half bridge" and get my server onto the
net properly, so it can accept connections easily.
I have a static IP from plusnet. (call it 2.2.2.2)
The router is...

| | HH conversion - SNR measurement? by
Ian Stirling
The engineer is at some point (hopefully) going to turn up at some
point to remove my HH box, and install a standard faceplate for ADSL.
I have failed on line-length to get 1Mbit.
At the time of installation of 512K, does the engineer report back to BT
what the actual loss is?
So that I could possibly upgrade to 1/2 mbit in the future?

Maybe OT but I'm looking for a good newsserver and was reading the supernews
(www.supernews.com) T&Cs.
One condition states, "DO NOT use automated unattended news posting and
retrieval programs with our service". Does this include setting up queues
with Xnews (or similar) to download?

I have broadband (whee!).
The engineer turned up to measure my line loss and remove the HH box.
He said he was not very hopefull, as his odometer read 4 miles from the
exchange.
Loss of 61db, which he thought was odd, as he thought that was beyond
the limits, but it gave a smiley-face, so it was installed.
Working well now.
The router (Origo ASR-8100) reports line loss of 63.5db, and a minimum...

| | Multiple IP addresses by
Treefrog
Hi,
Two weeks after moving house, I've finally got ADSL again (last night), it's
been a painfull & slow two weeks and I'm glad to be on this side of it. ;o)
I swapped from using Freeserve and the accompanying DHCP to using a friendly
local ISP where I get as many static IP addresses as I want.
My old Freeserve setup consisted of a Zoom ADSL router/firewall (the "X4" I
think) connected via...

Hi all.
Finally got ADSL! Never thought I'd see the day!
The loss & SNR is excellent. I'm not far from the exchange, and IIRC, the
loss was about 35db, and I was allowed 59. The garage over the road was
getting a 2Mb link put in at the same time, and the engineer said there'd
be no problem getting 2Mb out of my line the quality was that good :-)
A not inconsiderable "thank you" to the kind...

I'm getting a max 80kbps connection speed on an alledged "broadband"
connection (Tiscali say I should be getting a minimum 250kbps). I've already
tried Tweak MTU (from Tiscali)
Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this slowdown?
Additionally, ever since I installed the BB stuff, I've been experiencing
problems with my browser (doesn't matter which browser I use). The pages

Hi
In the next couple of days adsl will be enabled in our area.
I took some recommendations of this newgroup and was going for the draytek
vigor 2600, but found this:
"2600 & 2600WE - Lead time = 4 weeks (as at 7-11-03) Draytek UK has no stock
of these products
and it is therefore very likely that you will be quoted similar lead times
by all Draytek

| | Just migrated from BT to Nildram by
Mark
Just migrated from BT to Nildram. Although the order took 2-3 to process
the actual migration lasted about 5 minutes - hours less than my worst
fears.
Hats off to the BT engineer that took the cable out of one sockect and stuck
it in another.
And thanks to Nildram I now have a fixed IP and can send mail from smtp that
had become blocked as a blanket restriction imposed by BT.

I'm a Zen home 512k ADSL user. I've had a happy 6 months with them. My issue
is that I'm off travelling for 2-6 months and I'd like to put my account 'on
hold' or 'low usage' or similar tariff until I return.Having spoken to Zen's
Customer Services it appears no such tariff exists. This is
a) a shame, as I've had good service and don't want to cancel,
b) a pain because *if* I sign up with them...
