Dropouts by Dennis Moore
My ADSL connection seems to dropout for no reason. Goes for days with no droops, then drops every few minutes. Connect with Tiscali via BT, using frog modem and a Belkin USB hub with it's own power supply, i.e. not powered through computer. Any ideas to save my frustration ? Thanks

Why no adsl at 4km from the exchange by Ash
I can't get Adsl even though its 4 km along roads to my local exchange. What reasons could there be for being out of range? As they say you can get it up to 6km. Will the line go the shortest route from exchange to my house or could it zig zag miles out of the way? Ash

Networking with BT Broadband by abaapis
Hi, I know many similar questions have been asked regarding this so I hope that you don't mind me asking another :) We have BT Broadband (just installed) and its working great. But we want to be able to network our 3 p.c.s together. I was thinking of a router/switch connecting the modem and the 3 p.c.'s by cables, and I was just wondering whether this seems viable? With this option

CCTV over internet by TX2
I am looking into the possibility of installing web cams in 5 different locations with a view to be being able to monitor them from a remote location for security related purposes. For example, i might be in premises 1, and wish to view the cam at premises 2 via the internet, or i may be at premises 3 and wish to view the other 4 cams from that location. Having no knowledge of how i might...

ADSL Connection sharing via Bluetooth by King Queen
I have a Bluetooth-enabled PC and I'm hoping to get a laptop, I'm also skint so can't afford wireless hubs or whatever. I'd like the laptop to have access to the Internet. I'm wondering if I buy a USB dongle for my laptop whether it would be able to share my Pipex ADSL connection of my computer's on. I notice the Bluetooth software has a "network access" function but never really sussed it...

Increasing Broadband Speed by divico
Cam wrote in message news:1Niaa.9497$3D1.1569@sccrnsc01... If you are happy with 1.5gbits speed then you will be happier with my utility program that will get you up to 2.7Gbits/sc and in some cases 3.1 Gbits/second range on your broadband. I used to be unhappy with my broadband speed. The problems we're having here are not only the ISP default setting, your...

Cannot connect Laptop analogue modem with ISP through Microfilter by mfs1011
My other half's work laptop must connect to her firm's ISP using an analogue modem. Now that I have a microfilter for ADSL, the connection speed is either poor or non-existent. I recall having to contact BT in the past to 'increase the gain' on the line to improve reception - will this work or is there another way to get a old fashion modem to co-exist with ADSL? All suggestions gratefully...

OT: Irix by Treefrog
I hate to write such an OT post but I couldn't find a better newsgroup on my ISP's news server and you chaps seems to be pretty knowledgeable in the computer department. I'll be running this machine from my adsl connection if that makes this post any more "on topic"? ;o) I was recently given an old Challenger S SGI server, it was used as a web server until 1998 and it's been collecting dust ever...

Cannot upgrade to 1mb due to engineer install?? by v-tech
Hi, moved over to pipex about a month ago to their 512kb service, I thought I might as well upgrade to the 1mb service seeing as their wasn't much in the price. The problem I'm faced with though is the pipex site tells me that I cannot upgrade to the 1mb service as my line is managed?? Does anyone know what I have to do to over come this problem Thanks

BTopenworld by Chris Steels
Just had my cease date confirmed from BT as the 24th November when I'm moving my broadband to Pipex (then changing to their 1mb service) I just wondered if I will still be able to pick up my email from the BTopenworld account after Pipex become my provider. I've got loads of regular email that I pick up from it and use it for lots of mail order and other places and am worried that BT might be...

BTOpenworld Support by Jane j
Does anyone have the official answer to why BTO support are not posting in their own support newsgroup? Since I have been with BTO their support has been lousy. We use to have someone called Lee who was totally useless, but at least he posted a reply every week or so. The replies may have been waffle or wrong but at least we had some slight contact with support. Of recent there was a David and...
