| | Could my ADSL install still fail? by
Iwan Davies
Living (I thought) on the edge of ADSL range, I used the web-based line
checker to determine which of my two lines to use for the ADSL application.
Only one passed - though both come from the same cabinet about 200 yds
away. Fair enough I thought, and applied for a 1MB line, assuming it would
drop to RADSL if the distance was too far.
Now Zen have confirmed that the line is scheduled to be...

| | NW Providers - Help!! by
David
I am currently with BT Yahoo on ADSL and am fed up with em. It costs me
29.99
a month to have problems accessing the service which, especially of late, is
ridiculously slow and unstable. Add to that a customer service team that
you can never get through to and you'll understand why I am asking.
I don't particularly want Telewest and NTL don't supply where I live so can
anyone offer advice on a...

send email from my own domain, I would have to use their dialup number (at

| | ADSL / Caller Display Conflicts by
James Ward
Has anyone experienced conflicts between their braodband modem and
caller display. Whenever my SMC 740 router / modem is turned on my
caller display stops working. The caller display is part of my DECT
BT Synergy handset. When I disconnect the router / modem it works
fine again.
BT have tested the line: no problem.
My 2M ADSL provided by Bulldog works fine also.

| | VPN will not connect by
lenny
I am having loads of problems setting up a VPN. Iam using a Conexant Router
on the Server end with BT Openworld. I have opened port 1723 and directed it
to the server machine on my LAN. By using GRC.com I have tested to make sure
that the port is open and it is.
When I try to connect from the client computer I am always getting the error
800. Even when I have enabled the DMZ on the router I...

| | Help with BT Brain-dead-band by
pjonesuk
Two years ago apply for Broadband. Had a BT techie come around to
install broadband (before self-install days). Fail the whoooooose test
and been on the dial up ever since. Before the techie left he gave me
the test measurements; 5.6km from exchange and 59db on the noise
level, meaning 100 metres too far. Fair enough.
Now that BT has extended the range broadband range to 6km and 60db, I
should...

| | Sattelite (sp?) broadband - how does the uplink work and what speed? by
Bartek
As the subject really, if my landline b-band plan fails then I hear that
there are some pretty economical sat modem solutions out there. I would like
to know one thing though:
How does the upload/uplink side work, I believe the sat modem works off a
dish (40/60cm) - they can even modify an existing Sky dish (by fitting a 2nd
LNB I presume) to work as tv/sat b-band, but are you going to be...

| | Can anyone recommend an ADSL router? by
Danyool
Hi Everyone,
I'm new to all of this ADSL lark, and was wondering if anyone could
recommend a cheapish ADSL router/switch. Have been looking into the D-Link
504 which seems to do what I want, but I'm sure I could get something
similar for less!!
I need to connect 4 PC's to it, and want to be able to block certain ports
in either direction, do NAT etc. Will probably be going with Pipex 512k if
it...

| | LinkSys BEFSR81 v1: Bad latency/ping issues of over a second. Anyone else seen it? by
Bloke at the pennine puddle (Replace n.a.v.d with vodafone.net.)
Calling all who have a LinkSys router and more then one computer on
it. Specifically the `BEFSR81 v2` router with the latest firmware.
Router is firmware date `2.44.2z, Dec 13 2002`
The `BEFSR41 v2` might show the same symptoms.
If you've got the 8 port version, do the following. I'm trying to
identify a problem with the router's firmware and if others have the
same problem and may also have...

| | BT broadband website line check for ADSL by
Corncrake
In a recent thread Sunil Sood said to Bartek :
"What does http://www.bt.com/broadband/ say for your number?"
There is quite a long pause between the popup window appearing
and the information being printed on-screen which makes me wonder
if it is actaully performing a test on my line (doubtful since I am
still connected !) or is it just taking a long time to look up the
database on my...

| | Will this do the job? by
Steve Barnett
I'm a complete idiot when it comes to networking. Anything else technical, I
cope with, but not networking.
So, I'm looking to connect two PC's (desktop and laptop) and have them
connect to an ADSL service (yet to be purchased). I don't want loads of
boxes,so I'm looking for a wireless router with built in modem. To date, the
best guess I have is:
Netgear DG824M wireless router
Netgear MA311...

hi
can smeone tell me what exactly is Local Loop Unbounding and how does it
benefit the customer?
My exchange has Bulldog and BT have told me my line quality is too poor for
ADSL (i live under 5km in line length). Will signing up with Bulldog make
any difference to my line test result?
If not then what is the point of a LLU? I'm confused so please don't flame

| | Bandwidth Monitor by
Sean Ayling
About 12 months ago one of the nice fellows on here posted a link from where
I downloaded a bandwidth monitor type app. Did a reinstall the other day and
can't find the bloody thing anywhere and, of course, I've no idea that it
was called.
Any bright ideas anyone?
