| | Help please ... Wireless 54 or 11mps by
Gunnr
I am about to get a Wireless router/modem.
I have narrowed it down to Vigor 2600 due to the good reports I have read
here.
What advantage would I have if I waited for the 2600g with the 54mps as
opposed to buying a 11mps version now?
I use my system for gaming and browsing and a laptop connected (will be
wirelessly)

| | BT's procedure's for line tests, does anyone outside know what your rights are? by
Bartek
Hi,
Let me set the scene, I lived in North London (Edgware) - had b-band happily
for 12months, then moved to North West London (Harrow). Naturall, living on
the outskirts of the biggest metropolitan area in the world I didn't bother
checking before I moved to see whether I could get b-band. Imagine the
nightmare having been told that I live too far away from an exchange!
The phone line is also...

| | [UK-Bug] Down and out for the count :o( by
Andy Jenkins
Hi all,
I've recieved about 150 emails since late Friday night asking if
UK-Bug is coming back at all - seemingly some people like the site ;o)
Due to problems with out host (DNS it appears at the moment as A & MX
records for sure have been removed), and we're promised resolution
within the next few hours (although I'd say probably 24 is more
realistic given DNS propergation.

| | DG814 Email of log by
Les Desser
I have just checked the logs sent by my DG814 for the first time in
quite a while and have found a problem.
Originally, the log showed one line at a time with the date and time -
as one sees it when browsing the log on the DG814 itself.
Now (see below) it strings multiple actions on one line and the
date/time is missing.
Currently on V4.9RC1 July. 15, 2003

| | Firewall (and suchlike) on DLINK DSL 604+ by
lensman
Hi all,
Anyone know anything about the firewall on the DLINK DSL 604+ router ?
The sales pitch claims its an SPI firewall, which is great,
but the web setup for this is abysmal, and all the dox I have
been able to find for the command line telnet interface
are lousy.
Its a shame, its a nice piece of kit, and it works really well,

| | (Yet another) DLINK question by
lensman
Hi all,
Anyone know if its possible to disable the switching on the
the 4 wired ethernet ports on the DLINK DSL 600+
(or any simmilar ATMOS based router) ?
I would like to be able to do various network monitoring
tasks from a box connected to one of the ports, but as
it is switched, I can't.

| | Security and hacking - Basic Knowledge by
Webmaster
About to go live with ADSL, and I have shiny new router to play with.
I know very little about ports, TCP, UDP, firewalls, DoS, port-scan
attacks, etc.
What are the done things with firewalls etc? How does one set them up to be
effective?
ISP is plusnet, and useage will be per-perr filesharing, websurfing,
newsgroups and email. Not into remote management although I should like to

| | Question: re - broadband metering by
Barry
I am considering changing form one ADSL ISP to another , or perhaps going to
cable .
My question is related to metering of uploads/downloads. Anyon know how I
can figure out my monthly averages. I am considering other ISPs that allow
for smaller GB caps than I currently have with my current ISP, and need to
know if I will be over my average downloads/uploads .

I've just installed a couple of wireless network cards on an ad hoc network
for a friend of mine who's connected to Blueyonder broadband but can't get
ICS working. The two pc's communicate ok. Can anyone point me in the right
direction as the cable modem setup is somewhat different to my frog!
Thanks

| | 5861 in Bridge mode by
Steve Cargill
I've got a 5861 with the latest software, v5.3.80 and am trying to get
it working in bridge mode so I can use a proper firewall behind it.
It connects OK, but then gives up with Peer not negotiating `BNCP' right
now. I've raised a call with the ISP but am still waiting for a
response. All the information I can find indicates that it should just
work, but looking at this error it indicates...

| | What Wireless router & pcmcia card for around £150-200? by
David Lindsay
In message , John Kerr
writes
My sister is after an ADSL modem /router to use with:
1) A desktop machine - ethernet connection.
2) A laptop - wireless via pcmcia card.
I guess it should incorporate a 2-4 port hub in case she decides to
expand her network.

| | Upgrade to 1MB ADSL by
Bal
I'm waiting for an upgrade from 512 to 1mb ADSL and have read something
strange posted by another upgradee.
Apparently BT sent an engineer to his house to do a line check. Is this
normal practice considering that when I had "wires only" installed any line
testing was done remotely?
Cheers

Old Codger
I understand that I need PPPoATM to log into btbroadband, however, my FM114P
only appears to support PPPoE. My DM602 supports PPPoATM but do not seem to
be able to access it through the FM114P firewall, any ideas out there.

Just been told by BT my line is to far from the exchange to get BB, when it
shouldnt be. They must wrap my line in circles!
Been told I will not and probably never will get ASDL.
They have cancelled my order with Pipex. Their ****y checker has told me for
the last 5mths I could get BB.
I'm totally hacked off. BT say there is no point in me trying to order a
