Question: broadband metering by Barry
I am considering changing form one ADSL ISP to another , or perhaps going to cable . My question is related to metering of uploads/downloads. Anyon know how I can figure out my monthly averages. I am considering other ISPs that allow for smaller GB caps than I currently have with my current ISP, and need to know if I will be over my average downloads/uploads . Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Hauppage DEC 2000t by JPG
Slightly against my better judgement I bought a DEC 2000t (£110 at John Lewis, Solihull). Even though the Nebula is rated better amongst the august and knowledgable contributors to this ng, the ability to act as a Freeview box as well as a DTV PC device won the day. The software is crappish but bearable, and I look forward to replaying recorded material back through the box via the USB and...

Topographical Survey data by Graham in Melton
If I wanted to look at setting up a wireless broadband service in a small village, whose houses are dominated by small valleys and wooded hillsides, Iıd obviously be daft. So, given Iım daft, does anyone know where one can get (for free) small parts of OS maps in a topographical form so we could so some basic line of sight estimates. I could use a pen and pencil but that seems so twentieth...

Pipex/other ISP and incoming SMTP mail by Paul
Hi, Just wondered if anyone knew whether Pipex are able to allow incoming mail via SMTP rather than POP3 or whether you've had good experience with any other ISP? Cheers, Paul.

BT engineer refused to install line by Beck
I arranged with BT to come round today and re-install an old line for adsl. This is after our other 2 lines failed the tests. I was advised by a few people that often another line may reach the exchange where others had failed. But the BT engineer said not to bother as the line would take exactly the same route. he left wthout even doing anything to the line Oh well, my last chance for adsl was...

How much longer before I reach ADSL sanctuary by andrew dunlop
After waiting three years for Broadband the last few days are proving the hardest to bare! My line has HH (for the last three years so out of contract). I have bought a ADSL router which I have configured, (I am about 2K from the exchange). Pipex received my order on the 22/SEPT for the 1MB service, the order was passed to BT on the 6/OCT and my exchange was enabled on the 8/OCT, I am keeping...

BT Upgrade of Fibre Optic Lines? by tbp
I have now heard from two people that, following succesful trials of something at the British F1 GP, BT are upgrading the Fibre Optic lines to take Broadband. Both incidents were mentioned round Milton Keynes(sp?) The call center either knows nothing, or has been told not to say anything. Does anyone have any info regarding the conversion of Fibre to take BB?

[UK-Bug] PHP coder wanted by Andy Jenkins
Hi all, Slightly OT here - so I hope that this doesnt offend anyone - besides, the outcome is for the benefit of participants here - so it's slightly relevant to the group ;o) Due to the sucess of UK-Bug - we need a new PHP coder. I've put up a brief news item @ http://snurl.com/2n1i with a little more information.

Flip I'm fed up no ADSL and Slooooow 56K by Stevie Boy
HI, I've been without my adsl for 4 days now... yes 4 days! :-( It just wont connect although the status light on my asus router/modem is fine. The back-up dial up service is like a 14.4k connection taking ages for web pages to show and e-mails and newsgroup headers to download. SO much so I'm thinking of bining it all and doing something more positive instead.

Netgear DG824M wireless router crashes with range extender by JP
When I use my Netgear DG824M with a D-Link DWL-800AP+ range extender/signal repeater (bought in USA, not? available in Europe)located in my house about 50 metres from the DG824M in my neighbours house. The DG824M systematically crashes after about a minute of web surfing and has to be rebooted. Other wireless routers have no problem with this particular range extender. Has anyone else had the...

Freedom 2 Surf BB - 10 quid bung!! by Jambers
The first F2S broadband user to post here and recommend the service to me (and anyone else for that matter), gets 10 quid credited to their account. I'm just about to sign with them and it seems a shame to throw an offer of 10 quid away, even if I'm not destined to be the beneficiary, well maybe in the feeling of well-being! ;) BTW, you'll need to post your account name (sign on name), if...

It is supposed to be - but a number of ISP's don't bother to check - or when they feed the order to BT it isn't checked. I have a number of ADSL circuits in different names to the owner of the line and it hasn't...

Best way to set up ASR-8400 for 2 PCs? by Grytpype-Thynne
Hi, I am waiting for delivery of an ASR-8400 Modem/router, what is the best way to set it up for 2 PCs one with Win98SE and the other with Win XP? Is it better to have them share one IP address or should I use 2 separate addresses? Can anyone point me in the direction of useful setup information. Thanks

phone number disappeared from BT checker by Cupra
Having seen that the TPON 'upgrade' for my local exchange (Hardingstone) is due for the end of October (albeit with information from back in July), I've tried the BT number checker again (after a previous abortive order) to find that my number is no longer in the database! Before I run the BT customer service gauntlet, has anyone else had this experience?! -- cupra
