Plusnet subscription due for renewal - what to do? by Peter
Thanks for the comments guys. It seems I'll be staying put with PlusNet. Dynamic Vs Static IP? it means the difference between someone tracking everything you do, say or see online, or not. I'm talking legal here and I would rather not be profiled if I can avoid it. Why would anyone not object to being tracked forever by anyone, and I mean ANYONE when you have a static IP. Static is handy for...

Modem serving single PC? by Gareth Smith
I have an always-on PC that is used used for nothing other than sharing periferals amongst three other PCs on an Ethernet Hub. When broadband appears at the end of the year at my exchange, are there any benefits in putting this always-on PC between the adsl modem and a wireless router? Cheers Gareth Smith

Moving office - downtime and ADSL by Paul Crisp
Just checkiing to see if the story I'm being fed about the inevitability of days of service loss is not only ludicrous but is also true! I am moving my small office (around 10 staff) into bigger premises on the next floor up in an office block. The place we are going is, of course, unoccupied so I am having, amongst other things, new BT voice lines installed there. One of these will also be...

D-Link DSL500/504 setup by Megashorts
Need a little help with my D-Link DSL500. I guess the 504 is very similar. I've just updated the firmware to R2.21.002.03.b2t18uk which works fine using the standard NAT configuration. I've enabled a DMZ pointing to a non-existant address on my network with "stealths" all my ports. In the "Advanced Filtering and Firewall" menu how do I get it to block the ICMP protocol from all external IP...

is this a good deal? 1yr boadband with dell pc £799 by Martin²
Nope ! Be aware of bundles offering something for free. Remember - NO such think as free lunch. You can buy Dell Dimension 2400 directly from Dell for £449 including delivery. Even cheaper if you buy a refurbished system, still with same warranty. (Optiplex's are more suited to office use.) PlusNet Broadband is £18.99 p.m. So that's a total of £676.88, but you would need to buy ADSL modem...

Pros and cons of static/dynamic IP by Chris
I am considering migrating to Plusnet broadband from btanytime. Plusnet, if I am reading their blurb correctly, give you the option of either a static or dynamic IP address. What are the advantages, if any, of a static IP for a "home user"? -- Regards Chris

Q: Broadband migration without downtime by Clive Smith
I would like to migrate across from BTO to Pipex. If I migrate across to a comparable product (i.e. a home 500 product) I understand that there should be minimal downtime (i.e. hours) if I get a CBUK number from BTO. Is this correct? Once I become a Pipex customer would it be possible to upgrade to say a 1 or 2Mbit service without any downtime, i.e. not have to go through the cease and...

Goodbye to a flat rate for broadband? by Darren Owen
Saw this article on the BBC webby today; http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3109146.stm You know, this really annoys me. They use the analogy of going out for a meal with a group of people then feeling cheated when the bill is split equally...well can I suggest that they don't arrange to go out for a 3-course dinner if they plan to sit there nibbling on a piece of celery all night?
