| | [UK-Bug] BTOpenworld & 1mbit trial. by
AndyJenkins
Hi all,
Today I a source advised that a rumour is going around that
BTOpenworld will not be participating the recently announced 1mbit
trial. BT Broadband will.
This has not been confirmed by BTOpenworld yet (as one would expect).
This could be because of a few reasons (one of which is that its
simple not true).

PNE1204
If you share a broadband connection between 2 PCs using an ethernet router - do
you need 2 separate ISP broadband accounts or can you work off just one.
Is it a question of some ISPs allow you to do this and some don't???
Any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks

| | BT Wholesale Availability Checker by
David Webster
Three weeks ago I replaced BT Home Highway ISDN with a regular BT analogue
line in readiness to accept Virgin Broadband. (I chose Virgin because they
do not require a 12 minimum contract.) Before the ISDN line was removed, the
BT Broadband availability checker confirmed that I can receive broadband -
this is not surprising because I am in a metropolitan area and my telephone
exchange is only a...

Barry Samuels
My local telephone exchange will be broadband enabled near the end of
this month.
I'm thinking of trying PlusNet having seen a number of good reports about
their service and support on Usenet. I have also seen some adverse
comments regarding the supply of equipment by PlusNet but that doesn't
worry me as I intend getting my own router and filters.
However my first contact with PlusNet is not...

Peter Montgomery
I was chatting to a guy in the local computer shop about setting up a
network between the 2 computers in the house when I get onto broadband
(next month). He suggested one was was to use bluetooth and I just
said - oh yes, ok . . . but when I got home I was thinkinging . . . so
what the heck is bluetooth.
Is it a good way of making a network?
Would it mean that the two comps can use the one modem?

| | Unplugging modem by
John Edgar
Is it acceptable practice with an ADSL modem to do the following, in
order to protect against lightening strikes etc?
1) after switching off, or going into hibernation - unplug the modem
USB connector from the pooter.
2) on switching on, or coming out of hibernation- before doing
anything, plug in the modem and then switch on.
Would doing either of these procedures compromise anything?

Doyler
Right.
Situation is that after a year of almost uninterrupted service (only about 3
outages that I can remember), since Saturday my ADSL connection has become
very flaky. Approx 50% of the time my Dlink-504 won't connect, showing a
Physical Line Error. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when it
connects, and when it doesn't - the connection can be up for several hours,
then flick on and off...

They're IMAP based, which is a tremendous advantage, in my opinion.
