Hi Guys
Queries that I would like to ask a
1) I know this is pretty general, but could anybody tell me what they think
the best overall ADSL package for the UK is at the moment?
Usage is relatively light (ie, min transfer rate 620MB a month and max
950MB a month) and would like something with:

Dear Chris,
In a word....do not bother. My friend has a satlink, but we are pure Linux
kinda guys, well he likes BeOS more also but that is offtopic. :)
The satlink stuff is iffy at best, has periods of outages, heavily contended
and the best portion of latency you will ever get, if large latencies is your
sort of thing!
SSH it is just about bearable, really only when there is some form of...

it now, how long does it take to get a ADSL modem after ordering ?

Hi All,
Just thought I'd share something with you. I've just successfully installed
an ethernet ADSL modem, but I'm part of the extended reach pilot scheme,
i.e. 5.5km and (supposedly) 6km from the exchange. I installed the modem
as close as possible to the master phone socket and used a single
microfilter/splitter, the idea was to give the modem the cleanest and
strongest ADSL signal...

The answers won't have changed since you posted the same question

Help please on connecting two computers.
I'm on broadband and need to connect my computer ('host') to a computer in
the next room ('slave'). I know I can network them, but, should both
computers be in use, does it slow down the doownload speed by much?
Or is it best to buy another modem etc for the second computer and use them
individually (i.e.one is switched off when the other is in use). Any...

I did the change with an Actiontec wireless router and Actiontec wireless PC
cards for the laptops bought from Dabs. Thanks to help from this newsgroup I
followed the instructions carefully in the router installation program,
including 'cloning' the MAC address of the ethernet card to which the
Telewest Cable Modem is connected.

Hello all,
Subject gives you the gist: I have just subscribed to blueyonder's new
wireless self-install. £35 gets you a Netgear WAP to plug into the
set-top box and a USB wireless antenna.
Sadly, attempting to connect fails (on two machines). The wireless LAN
seems to be up with no problems and the box can see the WAP. However,
the WAP doesn't seem to be able to connect upstream. As usual,...

Martin Underwood
I'm in the process of choosing an ADSL router for my parents who are about
to get broadband .
Their ISP is Force 9 who supply a Solwise SAR110 as standard for the
"router" option. This may have everything that they need. The only debatable
point is whether or not they need uPnP for making full use of MSN
Messenger - for webcam and audio connections.
I've not been able to find anywhere what uPnP...

Last evening I rang the BTOpenworld broadband helpdesk. The call was

was sorted. I have rarely had need to call this helpdesk but have always
